The Wizard of Oz is one of the most beloved movies of all time. So what better way is there to introduce your children to the theater than to take them to a musical stage adaptation of one of the most beloved films of all time?
Playing now at the Dallas Music Hall at Fair Park is Andrew Lloyd Weber’s new production of The Wizard of Oz with the Dallas Summer Musicals, and believe me this is one musical you do NOT want to miss.
Here are 3 great reasons to take your family to see The Wizard of Oz before it flies out of Dallas on March 30th.
1. It’s funny! This play is full of humor both for children AND adults. From the giggles erupting from young children to the chuckles from adults (in humor that flies right over our little ones’ heads), although recommended for ages 6 and up, this play is truly for all ages.
2. It’s beautiful! Just as the movie makes a stark contrast between the brown world of Kansas during the dust bowl and the lush colors of Oz, so does this amazing play. From the costumes to the Emerald City to the remarkably detailed sets, it is truly a feast for the eyes. Between the beautiful visuals and some amazing uses of technology (which I won’t spoil here!) even the squirmiest of children will stay engaged.
3. Songs, songs, and more songs! The Wizard of Oz has both the songs made beloved from the motion picture as well as a few new ones written specifically for the musical. This means you get to enjoy all of the songs you know and love from the film, while still letting the play entertain you with a few surprises it has up its sleeve.
The Wizard of Oz will be here in Dallas until March 30th, and you can order tickets online through Ticketmaster or at the Dallas Summer Musicals Box Office located at 5959 Royal Lane, Suite 542, Dallas (Preston & Royal Shopping Center). You can also call the box office at 214-691-7200.
There are nightly showings of the play as well as two performances on Saturdays and Sundays, so whether you want to take the family during the day or even make a date night out there are plenty of performances to choose from!
[Content Warning: Due to the scary nature of the Wicked Witch the play is recommended for ages 6 and up.]
Have you had a chance to see this play yet?
