Calling all teenagers ages 15 – 17.
SMU Family Research Center invites you to participate in a virtual reality research project!
Southern Methodist University is hosting The Virtual Study of Teenagers’ Relationships (VSTAR) — a study on teen peer relationships. The VSTAR uses virtual reality to learn more about how teens act in common situations with peers, including social relationships and dealing with rumors or conflicts.
Many of the teens who participate say the virtual reality simulations are fun! And participation will help advance scientific knowledge on teen relationships, behaviors, and emotions.
Not only is it a chance for your teens to participate in a study that could help others, but it’s also a great way to earn a little extra spending money as they will be compensated for their time!

Who Can Participate
All Dallas teens ages 15 – 17 who get permission from a parent or legal guardian (of course!) are invited to participate in the study. Everyone interested in participating will also need transportation to and from the SMU Research Center.
Time Commitment
This study involves a one-time, two- to three-hour visit at the SMU Family Research Center. During the visit, teens will be asked to complete questionnaires, a brief interview, and participate in several virtual reality simulations. The teen and the parent or legal guardian of the teen will also be asked to complete questionnaires online prior to the visit to SMU.
Location
The study and lab are located at the SMU Family Research Center, Suite 1100, which is at the corner of SMU Blvd. and US-75 (6116 N Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas 75206). Parking is free, so no need to factor that into the cost of participating.
Compensation
Dallas Moms readers who are primary caregivers of a teen who participates in this study will be compensated with $30 in cash, and their teens will also receive $70 in cash!
If you’re ready to participate, the study has already begun enrolling teens!
