Podcasts. Essentially digital talk shows. They are all the rage these days and gaining more and more momentum. In fact Podcast listening grew 23% from 2015 to 2016 and the podcast audience is 57 million Americans in total. Wow…that is a lot of listeners.
It took me awhile to really get it, but now that I do it’s become an informative and fun medium to get into. Plus it’s mobile so you can listen in while running errands, cooking dinner, working at the computer etc. And it can also be very life giving if you listen to the right one. So I thought I would provide you a little guidance to get you going or if you are already an avid podcast listener then you might want to add these to your list.
When You Need a Mom’s Perspective – these are all authored by Moms like us and provide a truthful, funny, and forgiving glimpse into motherhood. These ladies will lift you up, inspire you, inform you and most of all they “get it.”
When You Need a Laugh – it’s been a long day. The kids are driving you crazy, your husband is off with the guys and you need to unwind. Grab a glass of wine and be ready to laugh away the stress!
When You Want to Feel Smart – these podcasts are all good for wanting to get a little information while also being entertained. They will educate you and give you great topics to chat about around the water cooler or at school drop-off/pick-up.
So now you that you have a good list of what to listen to you might be wondering “how do I listen?” It’s actually super easy!
Three Easy Ways to Listen
- You can simply listen online by visiting the links I included above. It’s not the most organized way but it’s quick and easy if you are at your computer.
- iTunes. You can search through podcasts within iTunes and drill down based on category, popularity etc. Once you find one you want to listen to then just hit “Subscribe” – when you subscribe to a podcast, iTunes will automatically check each day for new episodes.
- Download an App. This is my favorite way to listen because it’s simple and extremely organized. A couple app recommendations: Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Pocket Casts ($3.99 but the BEST), Podcast Addict (android).
Alright, you have all the info you need to plug in and listen up! If you have a favorite podcast please share in the comments so we can check it out! Happy listening!

Hi Emily! Happy to spread the word! Great stuff!
Think from KERA is a must-listen for North Texans! I also love the Nutrition Diva, Serial, and, unapologetically, anything my husband produces at http://OnTheGo.fm!
Thanks for the recommendations…always excited to hear about new ones to check out. Thank you for reading!
