Is Your Dryer Safe?

With a family of six in our home and a new baby who will make her arrival in about 3 weeks, give or take, I do a lot of laundry!  Every day!  We don’t have the latest and greatest washer and dryer because making that investment has been low on our priority list.  I regularly have to run our dryer for two cycles for each load and I assumed it was because our equipment is older and needs to be updated.

I was wrong.

HomeSafe Professional Dryer Vent Cleaning came in to my home and changed the way I’m doing laundry, for the better!

I’ve always tried to do everything I could to help make the drying cycle as efficient as possible, including lightening my clothing loads, loosening each piece of clothing as I switch from washer to dryer, and cleaning the lint trap before each use.  No matter what I did, it seemed I always had to restart the dryer after a full cycle because the clothes were STILL damp!

One thing I really could not do anything about was the actual dryer vent.  The dryer vent, also known as the dryer exhaust duct,  enables the moisture, heat, and lint being pushed through the dryer to escape the dryer and your home. Air-flow and heat are the main elements in efficiently and effectively drying laundry. If either one is limited or restricted it takes more time, energy, and money to get the clothes dry.  Airflow restriction is caused by lint build-up, bird/rodent nests, or crushed/kinked hose or duct.

When Jacob, the owner of HomeSafe Professional Dryer Vent Cleaning, came in to our home, I was very eager to see what he might find in our dryer vent.  He even let my three year old turn on his big cleaning machine, but not before he took some pretty nasty pictures of our dryer vent.

Check out this picture…

…and this one.

Gross, right??

I had no idea how disgusting it was in there and honestly, I had no idea what kind of effect all of that lint has.

A build up of lint in our dryer vents causes slower drying times, heat build up in the dryer, overheated dryer, wasted energy, and fire hazards.

Just hearing the words “fire hazard” made me cringe!  I thought I was already doing everything to prevent my dryer from being a fire hazard.  I was wrong.

Fortunately, Jacob had the solution.  Just look at the difference he made in that vent!

That’s a HUGE difference!  And the look of the vent wasn’t the only difference.  I feel like I have a brand new dryer!  The dryer is actually cleaning loads in ONE cycle and some loads are drying in about 40 minutes, instead of the 70 minute full cycle we have on our machine!  I couldn’t believe it!

Not only did he clean the vents, but he also installed a Lint Alert, which will tell us when we need to have our vent cleaned again.  Having the vents inspected and cleaned every few years is a good idea for anyone.

Should a bird decide to make a nest in our vent, which is VERY common, the Lint Alert lights will let us know by lighting up to red.

It definitely leaves me with peace of mind, knowing there is one less thing I have to worry about when it comes to the safety of my family.

Check out the HomeSafe website!  It’s very informative and has numerous videos and pictures showing before and after their services.

Jacob said the average home costs $140 for a dryer vent cleaning but also mentioned a neighborhood special they have.  Should you have five people within the same neighborhood who want to take advantage of their services, they will offer the cleaning at $99 for each person.  What a deal!!

If you’re in the DFW area and you’re thinking this might apply to your dryer situation, give HomeSafe Professional Dryer Vent Cleaning a call.  You won’t be disappointed!

  1. Thanks for the info! One time, I had a fire start inside my dryer because of the lint that was in the vent! Good thing I was home and happened to catch it very quickly. I was still SO embarrassed to call the fire department because I thought it was something I had done. We always emptied the lint trap, so I just didn’t know how that could have happened!

    • It definitely took me by surprise, too! I can’t imagine how scary that was for you to have that fire start. I had no idea about
      cleaning the exhaust duct!

    • The landlord is actually responsible, although depending on your landlord they may or may not agree to do it.  HomeSafe has cleaned many rental properties, some of which the landlord pays and just a few where the renters have paid.  Usually when the landlord sees the pictures from the inspection they are on board.  HomeSafe Dryer Vent Cleaning does do free inspections and can get some pictures for you to see how bad it is.
