Tutus, Tiaras, and Tea. Oh My!

1

I wear makeup maybe twice a month.

My hair is almost exclusively in a bun.

I hate shopping for myself, growing up there was plenty of trips with me in tears shouting, “I’M DONE!” and leaving with nothing.

I like the convenience of dresses simply because it is less to coordinate, but honestly, anything comfortable is my preference.

So when my daughter has a love affair with dresses and skirts, wearing makeup, and running through Target shouting, “This cute Mommy!” at everything pink and frilly, well it left me surprised.  This was not learned behavior from her mother, maybe from her grandmother, but definitely not me.

When I saw that Kidville had a class named Ballet Tea Party, before I even read the description, I knew this was a class I had to enroll Evelyn in.  She is obsessed with tutus; literally every day she wears one -alone or over pants it doesn’t matter. A tutu must be worn.  She spends her evenings putting on dance performances for her father and me.  Evelyn watches Angelina Ballerina and tries to copy every move that she is performing.

I purposely didn’t mention that she was going to be taking ballet until just days before because I knew that is all she would talk about, and I was correct.  Now every day she asks, “When I go to ballet!?”

kidville ballet classI love this class.  I love watching my daughter do something that is just pure fun for her.  I love watching her face when she is learning how to plie at the barre, or attempting to do a jete over the balance beam (pretending that it is a river she must jump over).  Her teachers are fantastic, patient ladies who have a passion for dance and kids.  They understand two year olds and never show an ounce of frustration when one kid dominoes the group into doing something off task.

Like every class at Kidville, they have developed a science to exactly how long the kids can keep their attention to a particular class.  The class moves swiftly and at the end, we sit around the rug as they read a story, and we have a tea party.  They serve a snack of goldfish with “tea” (water) in tea cups, the girls are asked to say, “More tea please” if they need a refill.

Each class is over so quickly, but feels substantial.  My daughter practices her dance moves for us and her grandmother, I can tell she is developing her love for dance.  Honestly, I considered signing Evelyn up for a more traditional ballet class but I love that this class is teaching the basics with absolutely no pressure, just learning through genuine enjoyment.  At the end of the semester, they will put on  a dance recital and I absolutely can not wait!

I absolutely adore Kidville and the classes I have attended.  I have taken advantage of the drop off programs, and as a mother who had never done that before with a daughter that experiences extreme separation anxiety, imagine my surprise when my daughter didn’t even care that I had left her!  To keep up with all the different things that they offer, visit their blog.  Also, I would highly consider attending one of their camps this summer -not only will your kid have a blast, it is a guaranteed nap time for Mom or Dad!

*As a contributor, Kidville has provided me complimentary enrollment this semester but my opinions are absolutely my own-they wouldn’t have to provide anything for me to love them this much!
