It’s August and I have basically run out of every single fun thing to do with the kids. Pinterest has failed me, I have exhausted every camp option available, I’ve cooked the same dinner 3 nights a week…and it’s too hot for me to care anymore. I realized that as my creativity started to fade, and so did my wardrobe choices. The summer outfits I chose started cute but it went downhill quick and my daily uniform consists of yoga pants, a top knot and a dirty tank top.
After a glass of wine and gazing at my glamorous self in the mirror, I had a BRILLIANT idea. What if I had my kids choose my outfits for a week. It would give them something to do and it would force me to wear something other than my husbands robe. What’s worst that could happen, I have to put on pants?
I’m not gonna lie, I was nervous about the potential outcome of such an idea but I figured why not? I have a pretty legit wardrobe but who wants to fight with leg holes and sequins everyday? Not this girl.
Here is what they chose!
Day 1
Child: Gabby
Age: 6
Favorite color: Purple
Gabby is feisty, she wasn’t a biter as a toddler but she sure does know her way around a ninja star. She LOVES to wear dresses, so naturally that’s what she chose for me. This is my current favorite dress. It’s a vintage wrap dress and it’s orange and navy blue. I was totally scammed by a genius sales girl in Austin who asked me to “try it on because she hasn’t seen it actually on someone yet” so I politely agreed. Then this dang thing fit like a glove and and all I remember was that they had really cool fitting room curtains, leather chairs and good lighting, so clearly I had no choice but to leave the store with it.
I couldn’t just wear this around the house all day so I met a friend for a drink because this dress makes me feel classy and I deserved drinking wine from a real glass–not a plastic cup.

Day 2
Child: Brayden
Age: 9
Favorite color: Orange
I would like to introduce my youngest son Brayden, who doesn’t give two craps about this experiment. He walked into my closet, picked the first shirt he saw then picked the jeans on the top of my jean pile. For some reason he was insistent on me wearing these cheetah print heels. These shoes are super cute but my feet were bleeding by lunch. He is fascinated with precious stones so none of my jewelry was sufficient for him as he asked if I had any “good” stuff. I pulled out my diamond studs and you would have thought he won the friggin lottery, then asked if he could have them (umm no).
This tunic shirt is from Target and these jeans are from Anthropologie. Apparently, my jeans were fed up with my “summer bod” and just gave up and spilt right down the seam of the butt, so they have been retired. Let’s pour one out for my jeans and my goal to be “pool ready” in 2018.

Day 3
Child: Asher
Age: 10
Favorite color: Gold
Asher took this challenge very seriously. With his favorite color being gold, naturally he would pick the shiniest items in my closet. He originally picked out a full sequin dress that is way too short to wear in public and I was terrified that I would have to walk around all day explaining that I wasn’t a stripper or a lady of the night. Then he saw this shirt and he put the dress back (thank GOD!) He picked my white jeans and OBVIOUSLY my special occasion gold jeweled, 4 inch heels. I have only worn this shirt once because it’s not something you can get away with wearing all the time so all day I felt shiny, fancy and a little terrified that I would spill on myself.
I got this shirt at Dillards, these jeans from TJMaxx and these heels from Dillards.

Day 4
Child: Dominic
Age: 13
Favorite color: rolling his eyes
I am not sure what it was about telling him to pick out my outfit that terrified him but it did. He slowly walked into my closet and immediately said, “I don’t know how to do this! I don’t know what to pick!” He owns basketball shorts and like three t-shirts because he won’t stop growing and I refuse to buy him clothes until I have to, so stepping into a closet with so many options must have created a mental overload.
I calmly explained the instructions as if I was speaking to a wild panther and slowly backed out of the closet. After a couple minutes he came out with this dress. Then I had to send him back in to pick shoes. He almost died. He came out with my favorite shoes praise Jesus! Then he basically ran away.
I got this dress in Austin as well (I love the embroidered sleeves) and I got these shoes from Dillards.

This was an interesting experiment. I thought it would be something different to do but when I came out of the room wearing the outfits they chose, their eyes lit up and they were so proud of their choice. I realized that week that a.) they have phenomenal taste in clothes and b.) they think I’m pretty.
