There’s Still Time :: Ending Summer Well

Dallas Moms Ending summer wellIf that title alone made you cringe or possibly even cry, just go ahead and stop reading because I’m sorry to say, summer is quickly coming to an end. I didn’t want to believe it, but I knew it was ending when what I thought would be a fun Target run turned into buying school supplies.

If you’re like me, at the beginning of summer you made a list of all of the things you wanted to accomplish and casually talked about making summer plans with friends. Chances are that not all of those things got marked off the list. The good news is that there is still time to end summer well, check some things off of your list, and make some last minute memories with friends and family.

Let’s End Summer Well

As the season wraps up and the hustle and bustle of a new school year begin I’m holding onto these last couple of weeks to end summer well by doing these simple things:

  • Spend your time wisely: Having one last hoorah before summer ends leaves the family satisfied and ending on a happy note. Whether it’s a final zoo or water park trip, movie night, picnic in the park, or my kids’ favorite, a water balloon fight, spending time and having a memorable activity is a great way to wrap up the season. Check out the Ultimate Guide to Summer 2021 for some final events.
  • Don’t put things off any longer: If you did the whole, “Let’s get together over summer” and still haven’t done it, do it! Make time for lunch with that friend. If you were planning to clean out closets, organize the garage, or whatever was on your To Do list, now is the time. You don’t want those tasks to carry over into the next season while the list only grows.
  • Rest: I know I just encouraged you to make one final family memory AND to get all of the things you’ve put off done, but rest is just as important. Summer is a busy time and we often spend it going here and there trying to keep the kids entertained. Take some time to recharge your batteries, read a good book, take a hot bath, get a massage, whatever it is that settles your mind and rests your body.
  • Take pictures: Chances are you’ve taken hundreds of pictures of your children but none include you. Moms are pretty notorious for being behind the lens and not so much in front of it. I recently discovered setting up my phone front-facing and starting video mode. With 3 young children getting a decent family photo can be difficult. Record your photo op, then go into your video and pause it where everyone is smiling and looking at the camera. Take a screenshot and then you have that perfect family photo!
  • DO something with those photos: I made sure to store my photos on the cloud and in folders for each season. Mixbook and Shutterfly are both great sites that I’ve used to make photo albums.
  • Plan ahead: School will start soon and life will quickly get busy with balancing work, school, and extra-circulars. Start wrapping your mind around what new challenges back to school time might bring. Take care of that back-to-school shopping. Get a plan of what evenings will look like, and go ahead and start thinking about what’s for dinner! I have a monthly calendar that helps me to stay organized and balanced throughout the year.

As summer comes to an end in my house, I look forward to new adventures to come for my twin boys as they become kindergartners. We’ve had an amazing summer filled with lots of memories.

What meaningful things will your family do to end summer well?
