The Best Podcasts Getting Me Through 2021

0

We are well into 2021 and yet there’s still a strong 2020 vibe in my universe. I’ve been missing my friends and family and have tried to keep myself feeling connected to the outside world even though I spend most of my time at home with my kids. Listening to podcasts while I’m driving or working around the house has been a total lifesaver. If you haven’t already, check out my previous posts on the best podcasts episodes to improve your life and the best podcast episodes on parenting. Now I’m excited to share the best podcasts getting me through 2021!

Podcasts for 2021

You’re Wrong About • This might be my favorite of the bunch! It’s hosted by two journalists whose goal is to “reconsider a person, event, or phenomenon that has been miscast in the public imagination.” The banter is spicy (and not suitable for kids), and the observations are thoughtful and fascinating. I got hooked after listening to a series on Princess Diana, but have enjoyed deep dives on a number of topics, including Tonya Harding and the DC Snipers. Each episode is an interesting escape from current events and challenges my recollection of past events. You can listen in any order that suits your fancy. Highly recommend!

The Daily • Most mornings, I tune into “The Daily” to get a handle on important current events. I often find myself going back several episodes to gain a better understanding of more complicated legal or political issues that evolve and maintain their relevance. It’s not a huge time commitment (each episode averages 25 minutes or so), but it provides accessible and informative reporting.

The Mom Hour • When I listen to “The Mom Hour”, I feel like I’m hanging out with friends. There’s something comforting about it, and it often provides tips and hacks that I can really use. This podcast is hosted by two moms who have eight kids between them, ranging in age from little to grown. I really appreciate their perspectives on both the broader themes and logistical details of motherhood. I find it especially helpful since most of my own friends are in the same season of parenting at the moment, and the hosts of this podcast can give a perspective of what life might be like down the road.

What Fresh H*ll: Laughing in the Face of Motherhood • I found this podcast by chance a couple of months ago, and now I look forward to it every week! It’s hosted by two moms who are also comedians. It’s the perfect mix of informative and entertaining and is refreshing in its irreverence. I really appreciate the hosts’ honesty and humor on a range of topics like crafting achievable family traditions, setting boundaries, and parenting in a pandemic.

What are your favorite podcasts these days? I would love to take a listen!
