Random Abuduction Kidnapping1. It Only Takes 10 Seconds: My Most Terrifying Experience as a Mother by Cassidy

A couple of weeks ago I had an experience with my youngest daughter that lasted all of ten seconds but still continues to make me physically ill when I truly think about it. I keep replaying the moments in my head, hoping that I misunderstood the situation, but something tells me that I’m not. I believe I witnessed my precious baby nearly become abducted at the park not even five feet away from me.

I vowed there would be no more stepping on Legos in the middle of the night and tripping over blocks. Too many toys are a safety hazard and a sanity hazard. I have to argue that any child would be completely overwhelmed with a selection of toys as lengthy as the Cheesecake Factory Menu.

Car seat in cart3. When Is It Okay to Critique Another Mom? by Amanda L.

I just did something that maybe I shouldn’t have done.  I told a new mom (by the looks of it) that she was doing something wrong.  And I watched as her face went from confusion-to-horror-to-tears.  And then I walked ran away. But if given the chance, I’d do it again.

When I found out that we were having a little girl, I headed straight to Carter’s and bought every teensie, flower-appliqued onesie they carried. No exaggeration. It was a wonder they all fit in her dresser.

But about the time my daughter started sitting up, I discovered the joys and dangers (to my wallet) of shopping on Instagram and Etsy. And I found a lot of satisfaction in shopping small from shops owned by moms just like me who were putting their hearts and souls into fun and unique clothing for kids while providing for their families.

Mommy Hair School Collage5. 5 Minute Hair – Easy Hair for the Busy Mom by Amanda H.

As a busy mom of two, my morning routine has changed significantly over the past four years. I seem to be always running just a wee bit behind in the mornings, so into a ponytail my hair usually goes. At least 5 days a week my hair is in that ponytail. I started to get tired of that and wanted to figure out a few new easy ways to style my hair. I wanted something simple and cute that would not take me more that 5-10 minutes. Lucky for me, I have a great friend named Mary Manning, who is a master hairdresser.

Five years ago, I sat across from my 3 year old’s preschool teacher as she gently told me my son needed more practice putting on his own coat.  I quickly thought back to how I shoved his coat on him that morning, and every cold morning of his life, without even thinking about giving him a chance to practice it.  Oh…I stammered…we’re usually in a hurry and I guess it’s just faster and easier if I do it for him…um, I guess I should let him try it more.  “Perhaps you could let him practice when you’re not in a rush, or even when you aren’t even really going anywhere,” she suggested.

8 things to do when you are done having babies7. Eight Things To Do When You Are Done Having Babies by Heather

It’s official. You’re done! Maybe you took action, or he did. But, the option is off of the table. No. More. Babies.

One day, not so long ago, I looked through tear-filled eyes at the empty high chair resting in the corner of our kitchen and wondered, “Will I ever be okay with just having big kids?” Sadness dripped down my face. (I told the kids it was the onions.) But today as I buckled a child (my fourth) into a five-point-harness car seat for the nineteen-millionth time, my thoughts turned joyful. In just two weeks he’ll be old enough to self-buckle into a booster! This momma is almost baby-free.

IMG_32108. 4 Things It’s Okay to Do as a Mom by Kelly

It was a beautiful fall Dallas day. A blue, puffy-cloud sky and t-shirt with jeans kind of day. I had parked my car in front of a Sally Beauty Supply and was checking out (you didn’t think this red was natural, did you?!) when a woman raced inside. “Somebody needs to call the cops! There are kids that have been left in the car out there! Call the cops! Now!” The woman looked very worried and was talking to the cashier checking me out. Can you guess what happened next?

A capsule "sampler platter"9. Why I Got Rid of My Wardrobe by Denaye

Don’t get me wrong, I had a closet full of clothes. I had lost all the baby weight, so most of them fit. But I never seemed to have anything to wear. Post-baby, I felt certain styles like strapless dresses, v-neck tops, and short(ish) skirts just weren’t working for me anymore. Hence the head-to-toe work-out attire. I knew a shopping trip needed to happen, but I had no idea where to start. After all, most of my clothes came from a quick grab-n-go during a “drive-by” of the woman’s section at Target.

Krystal Hurst
Krystal is a Dallas-native who began her career as a fourth grade teacher in Richardson RISD, but quickly changed paths to became a stay-at-home mom in 2011. Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
