Although spring break season is here, you might not be willing to “spring” for an expensive vacation. A spring break staycation is a great way to get out and explore locally. You can finally make time for things you might not get around to on most weekends. Just because you aren’t going far this spring break doesn’t mean you can’t still feel like you’re going on an out-of-town getaway.

That’s what I learned when I loaded up the minivan with my daughters and their friends to explore spring break staycation ideas for older kids in downtown Dallas.
We went full-on vacation mode and explored our own beautiful city to unwind, indulge and recharge right in our own backyard. It was a great way to discover some awesome things for teens and tweens to do over the break in Big D.

It’s an eclectic community of artisans and makers bringing local, handcrafted goods together at a family friendly community event.
Alamo Drafthouse Cedars 1005 S Lamar: Take your kid to see a tween-friendly movie, like Black Panther, Wrinkle in Time or Pacific Rim: Uprising, at the Alamo Drafthouse downtown. It’s a great place to enjoy lunch, dinner, movies and events all under one roof. Their attention to detail in film presentation and programming has made them a second home to movie fans all over DFW.
Dallas Museum of Art 1717 North Harwood Street: Enjoy the DMA’s Late Nights festivities on March 16. This month’s theme is all about gaming. Although the DMA has activities for all ages, older kids will particularly enjoy unleashing their competitive spirit by playing daring, new interactive games in the atrium. They can even learn more about how games are created and why gaming can change the world by visiting with Austin-based game designer Chelsea Howe.

Different hands-on activities occur around the village as kids learn about how life was back in the nineteenth century. Teens will have a blast learning how to send a coded message through the telegraph among other activities.
