Do you love supporting local businesses in our community and finding new boutiques and eateries? I know we do, especially when there are so many hidden gems in Dallas that far too often get lost in the crowd of Chili’s and Targets. Well, one Dallas mom created the perfect solution for this problem!
Shelly Markey (after years of raising her kiddos in Dallas) created a website called ShopLocalSugar.com. It is a simple way for users to search their specific neighborhoods or areas of choice for local restaurants and shops. Restaurants are even hand-picked by diners and critics based on consistently good food and service, so you know its worth your time, money, and appetite if it’s listed on the site. Along with all the basic info like menus, hours, price range, and maps listed for each restaurant, there is a photo of each establishment, which is helpful when deciding what kind of atmosphere you are looking for. With all these new (and delicious) food trucks popping up everywhere, it’s nice to have a one-stop place to find them all and where they are heading.
Something else I really love about LocalSugar is the “Sales and Promotions” tab for all the eateries and stores offering discounts. Find out which local yogurt shop has a happy hour (yes this exists!!) and which clothing stores are offering 20% off. There is also an “Events and Happenings” tab to give you the scoop on art exhibits and other events taking place that might interest you. The website is super user-friendly and easy to find what you are looking for.
LocalSugar also has a fabulous Facebook Page that keeps fans updated on some of the sales and events of their clients. Although Dallas is the first market for LocalSugar to feature, my prediction is that it won’t be long until every city has listings on this great website. Way to go Shelly!!
