Let’s play a game! Raise your hand if you have children. Keep ’em raised if you are over 30. Keep them up if your metabolism just mocks you, and you’ve just about given up on your pre-baby body. Hand still up? Me too! I quite literally look at food and the scale ticks up. Sometimes I feel like it doesn’t matter what I do, those last 20 pounds I put on during my child bearing years are just my new normal.
Recently, I was having a conversation with a few friends, and one of them mentioned she was interested in CoolSculpting. I had never heard of CoolSculpting, but after learning about it and visiting my friends at EpiCentre I decided it was exactly what I needed to get my groove back!
If you’re thinking about CoolSculpting, or just want to learn more about, it this post is for you! I’m going to break down the whole procedure (from consultation to post procedure) and tell you everything you need to know.
What is Cool Sculpting? The CoolSculpting fat-freezing procedure is the only FDA-cleared,* non-surgical fat-reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn fat that resists all efforts through diet and exercise. The results are proven, noticeable, and lasting—so you’ll look great from every angle. –CoolSculpting.com
Am I a good candidate for the procedure? The procedure is specifically designed for those with less than 30 pounds of unwanted fat in specific areas. I think it’s important to note, this is not a weight loss surgery. CoolSculpting is a great option for those who want a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.
Is it safe and what are the side-effects/risks? Yes! CoolSculpting is the only FDA-cleared, fat-reduction procedure. Possible side effects include tingling, numbing, stinging, and cramping at the site of the procedure. After having my procedure, I only experienced mild numbing and occasional tingling that went away after a few seconds of massage.
So you’ve decided you’re interested. What happens next? Do your research and find a qualified practice to perform the treatment. I decided EpiCentre was the practice I felt most comfortable with, and made my consultation appointment. At the consultation, you will meet with the doctor to discuss your problem area(s). You and your doctor will come up with the treatment plan that’s best for you, and you’re ready to CoolSculpt!
What happens on the day of treatment? The day of treatment you will take “before” pictures so you have a point of reference to compare your final results. After pictures, the treatment area will get marked so everyone involved knows exactly where your procedure is happening. From there you’ll be directed to a bed or chair where the actual treatment will take place. The treatment area gets wiped clean and the protective gel pad is placed on your body. Once the pad is in place the CoolScuplting machine will be placed on the treatment area for treatment to begin. There is a small machine and a larger one used for CoolSculpting treatments. Depending on which machine is being used, each treatment lasts 30-45 minutes.
What does it feel like? I do not have a high tolerance for pain, and I can tell you this is no big deal! Initially there is some discomfort as the machine cools to the desired temperature, and the vacuum ramps up but that only lasts 3-4 minutes. After the first few minutes I was so relaxed I really could have taken a nap. Once your treatment ends, the area is massaged with a small machine that utilizes high frequency sound waves. In my opinion, this was the worst part. Not because it hurt, but because you’re numb from the cold and the sound waves sting a little.
What happens post procedure? After your procedure is complete you are free to leave. No recovery time, no waiting period, just leave and resume normal daily activity. I even went walking with a friend a few hours after my first treatment. The side effects I noticed during the days following my treatment were some swelling, slight bruising, numbing, and occasional tingling. I was blown away by how good/normal I felt after my treatment!
What result can you expect? This is the million dollar question right? Of course everyone is different, but on average you will see half an inch in fat reduction after each treatment. It’s important to note results are not immediate. You can expect results anywhere between 3-6 weeks post treatment.
My results, and what happens now? I technically haven’t hit the 3 week mark but I have had many tell me they can already see a difference! Once I hit the 6 week mark I will be going in for a recommended second treatment to complete my CoolScuplting plan. I am so excited to see what the final results will be, and really hope this gives me some of my pre-baby confidence back. If you’re interested in my final results be sure to follow along for a follow-up post outlining my journey.
Also, if you’re interested in learning more about CoolSculpting, or to see if you’re a good fit for treatment I HIGHLY recommend the team at EpiCentre! They made the entire process so easy, and made me feel incredibly comfortable! And bonus, they were one of the pioneer practices for CoolSculpting so they’re definitely pros!
