This post has been sponsored by Reliant Energy to bring you information on how to vote for a local Dallas nonprofit. All opinions are our own!
The turkey leftovers are now long gone and the recent rush of midnight shopping has come to an end, which means it’s time to take a step back and celebrate the true meaning of this holiday season. Today, the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, marks #GivingTuesday — a kick-off to the charitable season of giving to others!
As the holidays rapidly approach, Reliant is joining in the giving spirit by kicking off the third round of “Reliant Gives,” the company’s crowdsourced charitable-giving program, on Giving Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
Three nonprofits have been chosen by Reliant employees as finalists, with a chance to receive a $100,000 donation. Now Reliant is putting the power of directing its charitable giving in the hands of the public to decide who receives the top prize.
The three finalists are . . .
- The Warren Center in Dallas provides resources and support to children from birth to five years of age and their families who struggle with developmental delay or disability.
- CYCLE: Changing Young Children’s Lives through Education in Houston rewards students with new bicycles for achieving better academic performance in the classroom.
- Snowdrop Foundation in Houston provides scholarships for college-bound pediatric cancer patients and childhood cancer survivors, while raising awareness and funding for continued research to cure childhood cancer.
Voting starts on Giving Tuesday, November 29 at 9 a.m., and runs through December 9 at 11:59 p.m. The public can cast their vote for one of the three nonprofits an unlimited number of times by visiting www.Reliant.com/vote.
The nonprofit with the most votes following the public voting period will receive $100,000 and the other two nonprofits will receive $10,000 and $5,000 based on the number of votes they receive, respectively.
“During the holiday season, we’re all looking for ways to get involved in our community and support one another, and now you can do just that with a simple click of the mouse,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president of Reliant and NRG Retail. “This round of Reliant Gives is especially meaningful since each of the finalist nonprofits focus on helping children and their families. We encourage everyone to vote often to show support and help make the holidays a little brighter!”
Additionally, the Dallas holiday lighting tradition returns with the Reliant Lights Your Holiday event on Saturday, December 3 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.! Reliant Lights Your Holidays will take place at the AT&T Performing Arts Center and is a great way to get you and your family into the holiday spirit.
