Red, White, & Blue :: 3 Festive Fourth of July Recipes

0

I think for a lot of us, our 4th of July plans might look a little different this year. Whether you will be having a quiet celebration at home or a socially-distanced gathering with friends, here are some fun and festive, red, white, and blue recipes to enjoy.

Let me start this by telling you something you already know: There are not a lot of naturally blue foods out there! Fortunately for us, blueberries are very much in season and there are several “you pick” farms around the DFW area if you want to take a day trip before cooking. Here is our Dallas Moms guide to local blueberry farms.

Yogurt and Berry Parfait

This is a very simple “recipe,” but it’s cute and healthy. My kids loved making it themselves and using the fancy glasses and grown-up spoons to eat it.

Cream Cheese Pound Cake with Berries

My mom is a wonderful cook, but she’s not big into cake decorating. I’d be willing to bet she’s never made a “flag cake” in her life. However, I remember her making this pound cake most summers. Top it with fresh berries, and you have a perfect red, white, and blue dessert. It’s plenty to serve a crowd, but if you don’t want to share, it also pairs excellently with a cup of coffee in the morning (I won’t judge).

Red, White, and Blue Sparkling Sangria

This sangria is delicious, refreshing, and perfectly festive! I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this ahead of time, but when I pulled a pitcher of fruit and juice out of the refrigerator, my kids immediately thought it was for them. Luckily, it’s super easy to make a non-alcoholic version that is just as fun, and perfectly kid-friendly!

No matter how you celebrate this year, I hope you have a fun and safe 4th of July!
