I’m not a huge football fan, but I am a fan of teachers. When I first heard of the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFPF), I obviously only thought FOOTBALL and I don’t need any more of that in my house. Once I started to learn more though, through one of my clients, Tony Fay PR, I realized that the CFPF is about TEACHERS, and as moms, we can all relate to and support that.
Yes, the Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the College Football Playoff, but by utilizing that huge platform, they can support education across the country. Their initiative is literally the largest initiative ever undertaken by a US sports entity to support and uplift the teaching profession. They’ve supported more than 150,000 teachers nationwide, reached 4.6 million students, benefitted 20,000 schools and has guided a nationwide effort that has led to $20 million raised in support of education.
My children spend more time with their teachers than I do. I’m a working mom and having quality teachers in the classroom is one of our families’ top priorities. Who are our children going to be if they don’t have teachers to guide, motivate and encourage them? I know how much of an impact a great, and a bad, teacher can have.
It only takes ONE teacher. These are OUR schools. These are OUR teachers. These are OUR students and children.
Through their primary platform, Extra Yards for Teachers (cute name, huh?), they provide resources, recognition, recruitment and professional development to our children’s teachers.
A few things to remember:
- Teachers spend $500 a year on out-of-pocket expenses to help OUR children succeed in their classrooms. CFPF puts dollars into classrooms.
- Out of the top 20 countries surveyed, the U.S. ranks 9th in the level of respect for the teaching profession. CFPF rallies college football to recognize teachers nationally.
- If current trends continue, we will see a shortage of more than 200,000 teachers annually by 2025. CFPF elevates the teaching profession to inspire and attract quality educators.
- Only 29% of teachers are satisfied with current offerings. CFPF partners with organizations who have a strong track record in classroom preparation.
As Brad Henry said, “a good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instill a love of learning.”
Today, I choose to go the extra yard for teachers. Will you, too?
