This post is part of our Neighborhood Fave Five Series. Check out our other entries to learn more about the different Dallas neighborhoods and suburbs from moms who live there!
Wylie, TX is no stranger to national recognition. However, it isn’t the awards that make me so proud to call Wylie home. It is the small town vibe and old-fashioned customer service that are consistently present despite its continued growth. My personal Neighborhood Fave Five list includes my favorite Wylie places and activities. They are open to everyone even if you are not a Wylie resident. I encourage you to all come out and experience “Wide-Awake Wylie” with your family and friends.
Bluegrass on Ballard
Bluegrass on Ballard is an annual Wylie tradition that fills the streets downtown. It is a bluegrass festival packed full of activities. These include a car show, chili cook-off, shopping, and live music. You can even bring your own instrument and join in on the fun. My daughter’s favorite parts are the pony rides and arts-and-crafts.
If you don’t make it out to Bluegrass on Ballard, I still recommend stopping by downtown Wylie. My family loves to take a stroll through downtown looking for Wylie Rocks, grabbing a brownie at Ballard Street Café, and stopping in Darling Charli’s to see their newest outfits. Come for yourself and “Discover Downtown Wylie”.
Smith Public Library – Inspire, Inform, Interact
I LOVE to read, and Wylie seriously has the most wonderful library. They have kid, tween, teen, and adult reading programs and events. The library is also connected to the Wylie Rec Center and what my daughter refers to as the magical forest. The library is surrounded by gorgeous trees that form a canopy for walking trails. We love to tiptoe listening for the fairies, unicorns, or any of the other magical creatures that we can hear but not see.
The Smith Public Library is hosting their summer reading kickoff party on June 7th from 9AM to 11:45AM. Their summer reading program actually starts even sooner running from May 20th to August 3rd under the theme, “A Universe of Stories”. Don’t forget to check in at the front desk and grab your reading logs for a chance to earn super fun prizes.
Creative Arts Guild – Wylie (CAGW)
I’ll never forget our first trip to CAGW. My daughter was only four at the time, and she listened to every detail and instruction while creating her own paint palette and designing her refrigerator masterpiece. Fast forward two years later, and she still gets the most excited to see the CAGW booth at local events such as the Wylie Rodeo and Art in the Park. CAGW lets the kids dig for gold, create slime, enter art contest, and so much more. This summer, they are hosting themed camps such as Harry Potter, fairies, secret agents, and comic book camps. CAGW will also customize a birthday party with the theme of your choice. My favorite part is that CAGW isn’t just for kids. They host coffee classes, jewelry making, and “Adult Pinterest & Pinot” parties where they focus on bringing a Pinterest project to life.
Melissa Mancini Photography
Another Wylie mom who is invested in our community is the amazing photographer, Melissa Mancini. She took a family Christmas photo for our family. Not only is her photography superb, but her ability to make us all feel comfortable in front of the camera adds to her charm. She has continued to expand her photography business. She owns Studio Lotus which can be rented, manages Social Life Photo Booth with the coolest photo booth rental, and she has even offered a digital photography camp for kids. Make sure to follow her on social media for her upcoming specials and packages.
Quality Care Pharmacy
There are several things we all have in common. One of them is that we all get sick at the most inconvenient times. However, Quality Care Pharmacy is there to help ease your stress. They are a full-service retail and non-sterile compounding pharmacy. What makes them so special is their personalized services. For example, if you or a loved one is sick, just give the pharmacy a call (even if it is 2AM in the morning), and the owner will personally hand deliver the antibiotics to you at your house so that you can focus on rest and getting well. Now that’s customer service! You can visit the pharmacy in person, take advantage of their free delivery service, or have your medicine shipped right to your doorstep. They match or beat competitors’ pricing and accept all insurance except Medicaid (which they are trying to add). The only thing missing is a soda fountain, and a little birdie told me that is even in their long-term plans.
There are so many more businesses, events, and people that are deserving of a shout out here in Wylie, but there are too many to fit in my Neighborhood Fave Five. Please add your favorite Wylie businesses, activities, camps, and more in the comments below.
