Neighborhood Fave Five :: Find Your Small Town in Lake Highlands

0

This is part of our Neighborhood Fave Five Series. Check out our other entries to learn more about different Dallas neighborhoods and suburbs from moms who live there!

With quick access to all Dallas has to offer, Lake Highlands is a perfectly tucked-away neighborhood in northeast Dallas. While still in Dallas, Lake Highlands schools are in Richardson ISD, with highly-rated schools which are high in demand. My family moved to Lake Highlands a year ago. We have loved learning the neighborhoods and finding the gems which make Lake Highlands home.

5 Favorites in Lake Highlands:

Wildcat Stadium: Looking for Friday night football? You don’t have to go far. Your young children grow up knowing about the Wildcats, it’s who they will become. Wildcat Stadium is an institution in Lake Highlands and your family should check out the traditions and pomp and circumstance. You’ll get a warm welcome to the community!

Lake Highlands Aquatics Center & spray grounds: The Lake Highlands Aquatics Center just opened a few months ago, just in time for summer. It’s been a welcome addition to the neighborhood! Not only can you enjoy an afternoon at the pool, but your kids can join the swim team right down the street. Not far from the aquatics center you’ll find the Lake Highlands Spray Ground to take advantage of with the littles!

Flag Pole Hill: Flag Pole Hill Park is an excellent place to play during the week or the weekend. The Park is an inclusive park for children and adults of all ages. The DSO plays their Memorial Day concert at Flag Pole Hill and marks the start of summer. It helps make Dallas feel like a small town when you are able to get together with your friends and neighbors for this special celebration.

Lake Highlands Town Center: The most highly-anticipated development in Lake Highlands was the Town Center, now opened and full of great experiences and dining.  The one year old Playstreet Museum is the best spot to take your littles and celebrate birthdays on the weekend. Your toddler will enjoy getting to play in “Downtown Dallas” while having fun with their friends!Lake Highlands

Need groceries? Sprouts is your stop for healthy food. I’ve also noticed they’ve recently upped their availability and assortment of already-prepared dinners–ready for the oven or microwave.

Looking for restaurants? Try Taco Diner (Mi Cocina is in the center across the street!), Fish City Grill, and the recently-opened First Watch for breakfast or lunch! All are family-friendly and super yummy!

Lake HighlandsThe Neighborhood Bar: This year, Lake Highlands said “goodbye” to Atomic Pie and Lake Highlands Creamery in Lakeridge Village. It was a perfect spot for a quick dinner or pizza to go. While Lakeridge Village finishes renovations and filling with tenants, the best place for to go for an easy dinner and a drink–with or without the kiddos–is Shady’s Burgers. The food is always good and the restaurant is always laid back.  Looking for dessert? Andy’s Frozen Custard is a great stop for a cold treat on your way home!

Katherine Hill
Katherine and her husband, Christopher, grew up in Dallas and met at SMU (Go Ponies!). They have been married 13 years, and although they love The Great State, they lived in DC and Baltimore for seven years, where they experienced actual seasons and great seafood! They made their way back to Texas seven years ago to be closer to family. While working full time and pregnant with their curly-haired Little Man (February 2015), Katherine completed her Master’s degree in Communication and Leadership at Gonzaga University. She continues to work full-time as an Executive Assistant in downtown Dallas. Katherine loves dining in Dallas’ local restaurants; chips and salsa are her weakness! When she’s not running after her family or busy with church activities, you might find her working on a homemade craft or two. You can catch up with her on IG @withlovebykitty
