Well of course we get an entire month for National Ice Cream Month and not just a day! Did you know that the origin of National Ice Cream Month dates back to President Ronald Regan’s presidency? That is a cause I can get behind!
Within the month of July, you can also celebrate many national ice cream-centered days. National creative ice cream flavors day is July 1st. National peach ice cream day is July 17. And of course, national vanilla ice cream day is July 23.
Many summer bucket list items revolved around sweet treats, and there are plenty of places to visit around Dallas. There are many awesome opportunities to celebrate and support local businesses all month!
But what about some fun ice cream creations at home? I don’t have an ice cream maker anymore (I don’t think…) so my kids and I came up with some fun ice cream sundaes you can create at home for a fun treat! Jazz up a tub of regular ice cream with these fun and simple recipes!
Strawberry Shortcake Sundae
Vanilla ice cream
Store-bought shortcake cut into cubes
Sliced strawberries or frozen strawberries in their juices, thawed
Whipped cream
Build your sundae in layers – start with the shortcake, top next with ice cream, then strawberries, finishing up with the whipped cream on top.
Birthday Cake Sundae
Vanilla ice cream
Store-bought cupcakes, split in half (separate the bottom from the top)
Sprinkles
Build your sundae in layers – start with the bottom half of your cupcake, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, top with the top half of the cupcake with the icing, and add extra sprinkles.
Smores Sundae
Chocolate ice cream
Mini Marshmallows
Graham Crackers, broken into pieces
Chocolate Syrup
Whipped Cream
Build your sundae in layers – start with chocolate ice cream, top with mini marshmallows and broken graham cracker pieces, drizzle with chocolate syrup, and complete with a dollop of whipped cream.
Peach Pie Sundae
Peach or vanilla ice cream (depending on how much you like peach!)
Canned peaches
Graham Crackers, broken into pieces
Whipped Cream
Build your sundae in layers – start with the ice cream (whichever you chose), top with a couple of slices of canned peaches and broken graham crackers, drizzle with a little bit of the peach juices from the can, and (as always) top with some whipped cream.
Bonus :: A Coffee Shake
Vanilla ice cream
Shot of espresso or regular brewed coffee
Whipped cream
Blend vanilla ice cream and espresso or blended coffee together. The ratio is one scoop to one shot. Blend until it is the consistency of a milkshake and top with whipped cream.
What other ideas do you have? Once you start thinking about it, they’re fun to recreate in ice cream sundae form! Create a sundae bar for your family and friends. What a great social! Stay cool and have fun celebrating all month long!
