Children don’t come with an instruction manual. If they did, I think parenting may be a tad bit easier! When I was pregnant with my oldest, I was overwhelmed with all the choices available to me. Where was I going to have my baby? What baby stores had the best deals? Did I really need that wipe warmer like I thought I did? Answer: not really, but my second child, a winter baby, loved her warm wipes! I was the first one of my friends to have a baby, so by the time they were pregnant, I was somewhat of an expert!
Somewhere along the line, after looking up yet another answer to a friend’s parenting woes, I decided I wanted do this professionally. I launched my business, Joyful Baby Planning, to help parents learn how to be parents and then even better parents. Who else can you call up and easily get a list of recommended doulas, OBs, or birthing centers? Curious about baby wearing or cloth diapering and need someone to explain it all to you? Does attachment parenting fit your lifestyle? Need a night out to meet with other moms? I have all the answers and solutions or will guide you in the right direction to find them.
As a baby planner, I love all the resources available to parents in the Dallas area. The networking for my business has introduced me to some of the nicest people and I’ve acquired quite a few new friends! Because I love meeting new people and helping other moms, I decided to host some larger events in addition to my personal consultations with moms and moms-to-be.
My Consign™ was born out of my desire to “reinvent the wheel”. It’s not just another consignment sale; it’s a social event where moms can get together, earn some cash, maybe even participate in a few trades, and have a few hours out of the house socializing with other moms in the area.
All of us want to recoup as much money as we can from of our children’s gently-used items. Kids outgrow their clothes and toys so quickly that it seems such a shame to earn so little when reselling them. With My Consign™, you buy a space to sell your items and then you keep everything you make. There are also no item limits. As long as your items fit in your space, you’re good to go. You can even split a booth with a friend!
What makes My Consign™ even more unique is that the sellers get to interact directly with the buyers. Sometimes a quick demonstration or explanation is enough to make a sale! I don’t always know how to price an item, but I’m willing to negotiate with a buyer if they feel I’ve priced something too high or if they’re buying a lot of my items.
In addition to moms selling their gently-used children and maternity items, I’m also excited that we will have a few local moms selling new and mostly handmade unique children’s and maternity items.
To maintain some integrity, there is a small, cash-only entry fee charged at the door: $5 for the first 2 hours and $1 until the end of the sale. We want to make sure that the sellers and the buyers know that it’s a consignment sale, not a rummage sale.
