Moms Who Inspire: Jen Coleman

0

Back in March, we began a series titled “Featured Blogger” and we were so thrilled to have had the opportunity to talk with Casey Leigh Weigand. (You can read her interview HERE.) But after searching the internet over, we realized how many amazing moms live right here in our own back yard that don’t use blogging as a way to express themselves. From media personalities and print writers to leaders and travelers, Dallas-Fort Worth is full of moms who inspire and we want you to hear from them too! So, today, we’re continuing our series with a little broader of a title, and another amazing mom we think you should meet!

 This is Jen Coleman.

While you might not recognize her from this side of the camera, she’s most known for being one of the famous faces in the mirror of Target Does it Again on Tumbler and Instagram.

Don’t follow them? That’s probably a good thing for your wallet.

Back in September of 2012, Jen & Laura began snapping “selfies” in a dressing room wearing their latest finds from their local Target and how inexpensive it is to put an outfit together quoting (and often photographing) the price. Since then, they now have over 176,000 Instagram followers, and their fresh and unique sense of style has sent moms all over the nation into the Red Bullseye to snag the outfit they just saw Jen or Laura wearing in the mirror.

You can see all of their fun Target finds & latest fashion adventures on Target Does It Again’s Instagram & Tumbler and her life in pictures on her blog Deep In the Hart HERE, but I thought I would take this opportunity to ask her a few questions about the side of her life that doesn’t get shared very often; being a mama in Dallas. Enjoy…

What do you love most about Dallas?

Dallas is my home! My family is here! I met my husband here. I just love Dallas, there are so many memories and memories to be made here!

Do you have a favorite indoor play space in Dallas?

We love going to Jump Street in Plano! There is plenty of room to run around and we always have fun! It’s easy and kid-friendy.

Where do you find yourself going out to eat the most with your son, Cove, in tow?

Cove’s all time fav is Chipotle! I’d have to say we go there the most with him.

We know that you & Laura LOVE Target, but does your son wear it as much as you do?

I really do find a lot of things for him at Target. I do have to say, they have more to offer the girls. but I feel like it’s that way everywhere.

Besides Target, what other local shops do you frequent when looking for clothes for either yourself or your son?

For myself, I love H&M (The Shops at Willow Bend), Zara (Galleria Dallas), Urban Outfitters, and Free People.

For Cove, I love H&M, Zara, Gap, and I love going to resale shops and thrifting!

Do you have a favorite Girls Night Out spot for when you need an evening away?

Girls Night Out for me is usually going to dinner at a place like Mi Cocina or R+D Kitchen, or going to a yoga class with a friend.

Do you find there are any unique challenges to raising kids in Dallas?

I think Dallas is an awesome place to raise kids. The weather is pretty good, minus the extreme heat in the summer. There is a ton to do here as a family.

Krystal Hurst
Krystal is a Dallas-native who began her career as a fourth grade teacher in Richardson RISD, but quickly changed paths to became a stay-at-home mom in 2011. Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
