Growing up my mom always reminded me of the Tomas Fuller quote, “If you have one true friend you have more than your share.” When you become a mom finding that one person can often become a lot more challenging than it might have been in younger days. You’re trying to decide if you click in general. Are your kids close in age for playdates? Will your husbands get along? Do you have similar interests? Do you live close? The list goes on and on.
Several months ago, DMB contributor, Abby Misegades wrote a blog about finding your mommy best friend, and the response was overwhelming. Right then our mission became very clear. We HAD to do a Mommy Speed Dating event!
For this event, we teamed up with our friends at Lakewood Brewing Company. Their taproom was the perfect spot to host a large group, and their famous cold brews were the perfect ice breaker. Not only were they excellent hosts, but they greeted our speed dating guests with the choice of their favorite pint, or a flight of several to sample.
Before kicking off the speed dating everyone enjoyed a very tasty spread from Sprouts Farmers Market, and sweet treats from Whole Foods Market. Everything was delicious!
For those ladies who just needed a night out, we also had a number of fabulous vendors set up at the event. We had Kate Somerville doing demos of their famous oxygen facial. Kendra Scott hosted a pop up shop for those looking for some retail therapy. And the lovely ladies of Martin Mayer Luxury Real Estate also joined in the fun!
After enjoying the delish food and beer, and visiting with our vendors everyone was ready to kick off the speed dating! The women were grouped by the area of DFW in which they reside and the timers began. Each “date” lasted three minutes before a new “date” began. It was so fun watching connections being made, and watching the women truly enjoy a night out just for them.
Once everyone found their new mommy bff, a lucky few found themselves on the receiving end of some pretty fabulous giveaways. Thanks to Kendra Scott, Kate Somerville, Lipsense, Gogo Squeeze, The Dallas Zoo, Crane Humidifiers, Babyganics, The GeoDeck at Reunion Tower, and Pediped for spoiling us all so well!

After the event, the Dallas Moms Blog team went through and anyone with a match was sent contact information for their new mommy BFFs. We can’t wait to see the friendships that flourish as a result of this event, and hope you are well on your way to your new mommy tribe!
