Dallas is growing and so is our team! One of the unique aspects of Dallas Moms Blog is our ability to continually add fresh faces and new voices to represent our ever-growing city. This past January we held an open call for new writers. With over 135 applications, our team had the toughest decision of narrowing it down to 10.

It’s with great excitement that we can now introduce them to you!

Throughout the weekend you’ll get a glimpse at the newest faces of Dallas Moms Blog before they officially get started on March 1st. So please welcome and get to know our first three newest contributors through a few fun & personal questions. . .

Meet Rachel

Family Pic 9-22-15Rachel writes and speaks with humor and honesty encouraging moms to live more nourished lives, even in the midst of raising babies and toddlers. An East Texas native, she and her husband Jared, a high school football and baseball coach, live in Forney with their funny adventurous little guy Jackson (July 2011) and his smiley independent little sister Corabelle (June 2015). And yes, she did plan their births around baseball and football season. Rachel co-wrote Nourished: A Search for Health, Happiness, and a Full Night’s Sleep and We Laugh, We Cry, We Cook with her mom, Becky Johnson (both published by Zondervan). She likes to write about cooking with kids, self-care for mamas, natural and gentle parenting choices, and the funny and poignant things her kids say and do. What’s your Go-To Restaurant with Kids: Torchy’s Tacos is our family go-to and Chick-fil-A is our playdate go-to.

During a Cowboys Game, We’ll Find You: Probably cleaning. I’m married to a high school football coach / Longhorn football fanatic. By Sunday in the Fall, I’ve had my fill of football, the kids are ready for some Daddy time, and the house looks like a hot mess.

What do you find is the most difficult thing about being a mom? . . . the most rewarding?
The most difficult is balancing what I need to get done with the time I want to spend with my kids. I don’t want to miss these adorable young years with them, but laundry and bills are even more needy than toddlers. The most rewarding: The constant flow of entertainment. I’m always laughing at something my son says or mesmerized by my daughter’s perfect blue eyes reflecting in the light. I’m an obsessive facebook documenter of all the adorable things they say and do because I just don’t want to forget any of it…and well, because everything is potential book material in our family.

Meet Melissa

DSC_0911Melissa is a DFW girl through and through. She was born and raised in Plano, Texas, bravely made her way south of 635 to attend SMU and is now loving life in the sweet little town of McKinney with her husband, Mike, their little girl, Elyse, and three puppies. Once they welcomed Elyse in late 2014, Melissa chose to leave her director role at a digital advertising agency and be home full time. It didn’t take long before she was squeezing in every creative outlet she could between library and play dates. Melissa is now proud to be an avid cook and recipe creator (the husband always asks for seconds), a sweet-toothed baker (nothing goes unclaimed), party addict (there’s always a reason for a party), flower arranger (just because they make her smile) and laid back hostess with the mostess. Melissa shares her creative explorations on her blog at Fun, Yum & Frills and on Instagram at @funyumandfrills.

What’s your Go-To Restaurant with Kids: don’t have one! We eat at home a lot and when we go out, we like to try new places.

What do you find is the most difficult thing about being a mom? . . . the most rewarding? It’s nonstop – there are no more “let’s do nothing” days or calling the shots as to when I get my “me” time – nothing is on your schedule anymore. Rewarding: that smile! Watching her develop a personality and learn.

What do you enjoy most about being a mom in the Dallas? Friendly moms focused on their kids and family

Laura Moss is a Dallas transplant by way of Lincoln, Nebraska. She moved to Abilene to attend college in 2002 and settled in the Metroplex with her husband Matt after graduating in 2006. She worked as a grant writer for a local non-profit for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mom to her two daughters: Harper (February 2010) and Cortland (February 2013). Laura loves all things domestic: cooking, baking, crafting, decorating, and cleaning (yes, cleaning). Her other interests include faith and church, exercise and healthy living, Nebraska football and her wealth of incredible friends and family.

You can follow her blog at Mossketeers and you can always find funny pictures or videos of her crazy kids via her Instagram feed: Mossketeers on Instagram.

You currently live in what suburb? North Dallas

What’s your Go-To Restaurant with Kids: Cowboy Chicken and Cantina Laredo

What do you find is the most difficult thing about being a mom? . . . the most rewarding? Difficult: Discipline and keeping my cool with all those behaviors that incite the discipline. Rewarding: Their loyalty and affection, as well as watching them mature, grow and make good choices (all that discipline paying off!).

What do you enjoy most about being a mom in the Dallas area? There is a never ending array of places to go, people to see, and things to do…and plenty of free options. I love that the culture in the Dallas area is such that it’s easy to plug in and develop a community with other moms, kids, and families if you are so inclined.

Come back again tomorrow afternoon to meet a few more of our newest Dallas Moms Blog Contributor Team!

Krystal Hurst
Krystal is a Dallas-native who began her career as a fourth grade teacher in Richardson RISD, but quickly changed paths to became a stay-at-home mom in 2011. Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
