I remember thinking back to when my child was under the age of 2 that there weren’t enough activities for us to be involved in. There were a few Mommy & Me type classes through a local toddler gym and of course, play dates were being scheduled left and right, but the activities that helped with growth and development were far and few between. I’ve noticed now that my oldest is about to turn 4, the amount of activities available to him is about to drastically multiply.

There’s every sport imaginable, children’s gyms, educational labs, and even music lessons. So now my husband and I are presented with the new challenge of making sure we whittle down all of the activities to a select 1 or 2 that will provide him the most holistic growth; physically and mentally.

While team sports provide a great opportunity to learn how to work together as a part of a team, like Kelly, I would be highly surprised if I DIDN’T see my child running for that school play ground you can see from any pee-wee field rather than wrestling for a ball like the rest of his team. It’s important for us to choose an activity wisely that will help give him confidence and strength while also instilling the discipline he needs, and for us, that will be martial arts — PRO Martial Arts

Strengthening Your Child’s Confidence

Through extensive research, we’ve discovered that martial arts is about so much more than kicking, punching and breaking boards; it’s all about building character, confidence, and discipline. By teaching young children the importance of respect, manners, confidence, discipline, and a positive attitude, you provide them with the understanding needed to identify the right decision and the confidence to make it and stick to it.

Students who possess these life skills are better equipped to excel at school, achieve success in sports and the arts, get along with siblings, treat adults appropriately and build healthy and lasting friendships.

The centerpiece of PRO Martial Arts’s kids’ Little Rhinos Program is their Character Education Program and Advanced Leadership Program which is designed to use martial arts as a “direct delivery vehicle for character education and leadership messages.” These interactive programs are created to provide students with lessons that will help build character and leadership skills.

As students progress through the art of karate, their color of belt identifies their progress and each should be celebrated as an achievement! Belts are tangible, visual demonstrations of physical and mental progress that really resonate with children.

We can use belts as tools to reinforce the character education lessons that we desire our students to understand and embody. ~Drew McWay, owner of PMA Lakewood

Strengthening Your Child’s Body

What I love about the Pro Martial Arts curriculum is that young children are developing a healthy body through routine exercise without even realizing it!  Many of moms are looking for an activity that will channel their child’s enthusiasm, energy and aggression, so Pro Martial Arts incorporates a healthy dose of fitness into every class. They tend to disguise fitness activities inversely with the age of the participant. So while 2 & 3 year olds will learn how to “jump like frogs,” teen black belt candidates might be doing physical exercises more familiar to adults.

Their highly structured and disciplined classes benefit children of all shapes and sizes, but are perhaps particularly beneficial to children with ADHD or other  learning disabilities.  The lead instructor demonstrates a rare patience, aptitude, and passion for working with children of all abilities.

Strengthening Your Child’s Awareness

10557328_700728656641341_2231655823843804792_nNo matter what the age, the focus is on developing the child’s body and mind to develop strong leaders; not fighters.  Often this means teaching their students to how to assess and (if necessary) avoid themselves from danger in order to stay safe.

At the core of every PRO Martial Arts lesson is the exclusive bullying and predator prevention curriculum they call ARMOR® – specifically designed to keep our children safe in both the real world and online.

As mentioned previously by Dallas Moms Blog, the ARMOR Program is divided into two 12 week programs; the first 12 weeks focusing on bullying and the second 12 weeks focusing on predators. Each class is independent of the other so that children can enter and exit the program at any time without feeling like they’ve received incomplete lessons.

During Bullying Prevention segment, your child will learn to recognize bullies and not become their victims, to carry themselves with confidence, to set and respect personal boundaries, and to be assertive when seeking help, and how to avoid cyber-bullying.

During Predator Prevention segment, your child will learn the real safety issue isn’t just strangers, but STRANGENESS, how important it is to listen to their instincts, and why they should always tell a trusted adult how they feel, appropriate versus inappropriate adult behavior, and online safety and rules for families to go by.

If you’re interested in learning more about martial arts for your child (or even would love to learn some of these skills yourself!), you can register today for your FREE Introductory Program which includes 2 free classes with no strings attached. You’ll also receive a FREE genuine karate uniform when you register. (If you decide to not continue after 2 classes, the uniform is yours to keep!)
