I don’t know about your family, but we are on the back half of summer and vacation is over, most of our camps are done, and our arts and craft supplies are seriously diminished. But we still have a few weeks to go and need some last-minute ideas to fill the time with summer fun. Have you ever considered a DARTable staycation?
We needed a break from our normal backyard/splash park/movie night entertainment routine so we loaded up our girls (and our DART GoPass® Tap cards) to take advantage of all that Downtown Dallas has to offer.
My husband and I spent many years as public transport commuters and taking the girls on something that we once considered so normal was fun because they are dazzled by the whole process! The DART GoPass Tap card made getting on any train and bus that we needed a snap! (Plus, there’s an app you can download to make your trip even easier!)
Margaret was eager to make sure we didn’t miss our train! With frequent trains running throughout the week from stations all over the metroplex, I knew we’d be okay.
We got downtown and had fun exploring. We love our Arts District and downtown in Dallas. There is so much to do and so much to see. We traveled to several places and thanks to DART, we never had to look for or worry about a parking spot!
One of the best places in Dallas to take kids who are interested in art is the Nasher Museum. The sculptures and different mediums seemed to really resonate with Odette, who frequently brings me her masterpieces made of pipe cleaner, feathers and googley eyes.
After a good deal of time requiring proper indoor behavior, it seemed only fair that we head just across the street to Klyde Warren Park for some running and playing. The girls loved climbing the spider webs in the park and playing in the splash pads!
And I think there is a rule that you have to get at least one treat when you are out all day with kids: snow cones it is!
There are so many fun, educational and different things you can do with the kiddos for a day in Dallas and the best part is, it’s almost all accessible by DART!
