When I became a mom one thing became very evident to me, each child is so very different and learns in different ways. I guess I knew this from my own educational experiences but like almost everything else, #momlife allows you to see the world from a much deeper perspective. When it comes to your child, they have your undivided attention as to what they need to grow and learn which becomes one of your highest priorities. Then comes there educational experience. Searching for a program that not only has the amazing Montessori learning environment but also welcomes the effectiveness of outdoor play, has been rewarding to say the least. That’s why I love The Westwood School!
Outdoor play is an important part of our Montessori Toddler & Pre-K Program. Our approach to outdoor play – like everything we do – “values the human spirit.” We focus on “the development of the whole child – physical, social, emotional, cognitive.”1
The Westwood School has really thought this through and provides children an outdoor experience they will always remember. Just imagine the beauty of learning outside! Take a look!
- The Garden Wall How cool is this?! This Garden wall helps pre-school children develop physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills. Most importantly, its fun outdoor play! They have a chance to learn and explore outside! Let’s all go outside and play!
- The Music Garden This one is one of my favorites! I personally think children need to spend more time outdoors and with music! Being a wife of a musician has given me a whole new level of appreciation for music. Numerous studies have alluded to the benefits of musical theory at a young age. I just like them being able to play and hear the sounds in nature and instruments! So fun!
- The Village of Houses Do you want to see your children really engage in imaginative play? Put them around play houses like this and just watch! I’m amazed at the things they come up with. How cool is it that they have this outdoors as well!
- The Race Track In this era of technology and increased screen-time, it’s awesome to see schools really engage our children in activities that make them want to explore and learn. Not only does The Westwood School have Montessori learning but it takes it outside and upgrades outside play!
“As a young teacher, I saw that troubled high school students were often missing essential life skills that children develop between the ages of 3 – 9. This inspired the approach we take at Westwood. We’re about helping parents who want their children to learn by trial, error and discovery at an early age – instead of fighting an uphill battle to fix troubled teens and adults”….Pam Butler, Founder, The Westwood (Montessori) School
