Over the last few months, my kids and I have been spending a lot of time at Kidville, one of Dallas Moms Blogs’ sponsors*. As we’ve mentioned before, Kidville is an amazing place where dreams come true! My 19 month old daughter and I are taking a Run, Wiggle, Paint & Giggle class one day a week while my almost-3-year-old is at preschool. It’s been a great way for us to bond, since I’m sure she has second-child syndrome, being less than 16 months younger than her brother. On the days that we don’t have preschool or bible study for mom, we often head up to Kidville to play in their wonderful Play Village, which is open from 9am-5:45pm Monday through Friday.
While I absolutely love the indoor play spaces and classes at Kidville, in my opinion one of the best kept secrets about Kidville is their kid’s hair salon. Located on the right side as you walk in the door, the salon is equipped with a DVD player and a fun airplane-shaped kids’ chair. For older kids there is a regular salon chair, but my son loves the airplane.
Two things I love about having a hair salon on location at Kidville:
1) It’s right there at the door so your child has a chance to notice it and acclimate to the possible experience right away.
2) You can play first and THEN get the haircut, so they’ve had time to burn off their energy and any anxiety they might have about getting a haircut.
I think we had one of the best haircut experiences we’ve ever had at Kidville because my son was so mellow after playing hard. Usually we struggle a lot with squiggling and squirming, but not here! In fact, the next two times we went to play at Kidville, he specifically asked to get a haircut. He saw the chair and he was ready to go!
And what about the actual cut? We’d been going to a local kids’ hair salon not far away for the past year or so, and both the kids enjoyed the experience. However, I would have to say that quality of the haircut at Kidville was much better than the place we had been going. Before, I had always asked the stylist to just trim it but keep his wavy curls intact (Daddy loves to see Little Sir’s curls!). Inevitably, we would lose the curls anyway. Not at Kidville! I was really excited to see that the frayed ends were gone but the curls were still there. Daddy was happy, everyone was happy.
If you attended our Mom’s Night Out last week, be sure to look in your swag bag for the Kidville gift certificate which includes 1/2 off a haircut. Let me know how you liked it!
