We’ve long sung the praises of the Walnut Hill Rec Center over here on Dallas Moms Blog. But, have you had a chance to check out Walnut Hill’s east side cousin, the Lake Highlands North Rec Center? There are two options for preschool indoors play at this city recreation center.
Recently, the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League raised more than $80,000 and installed a new indoor preschool playspace. The space has only been open since late January, but is already becoming a favorite stop on the toddler and preschooler circuit. Meant for children 5 and under, the Fun Zone features climbing fun, tunnels, and interactive stations.
Tickets are $3 each and can be purchased on site.
Wildcat Fun Zone operates weekdays from 9-10:30am, 11-12:30pm, 3-4:30pm, and 5-6:30pm.
2. Open Gym Preschool Playtime
The Lake Highlands Rec Center reserves their gymnasium for the under 5 crowd twice a week. During this blocked time, children can jump in a number of bounce houses, slide down inflatable slides, kick balls, play with hula hoops, and run all of their crazies out.
We went during that recent two-week stretch of rain, snow, and ice and I wanted to kiss the lady behind the front desk for providing my stir-crazy children with so much indoors space.
Admission is $2 per child and a free city of Dallas rec center pass is required. If you don’t have a pass, it’s quick and easy to get one at any rec center front desk.
Hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10:30am-12:30pm
Insider tip: Did you know free tickets to the Arboretum are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at all city rec centers? While you are visiting the rec center, make sure to grab your tickets. More information here.
