Hi there! I’m Desiree! Since this is my very first post for DMB, I figured some introductions were in order. So, um, I’m Desiree! Sorry, I get nervous and awkward when I meet new people. They say the best place to start is the beginning, so…
I’ve lived in Dallas since 1995, one year after graduating high school. I moved here to become a flight attendant for American Eagle Airlines. You know, the teeny propeller planes that wanted to be American Airlines jets when they grew up? I was 19 years old and fearless. It was my first time away from home and I like to say that while I wasn’t born in Texas, I definitely grew up here. Being a flight attendant was a great job and I loved it. I eventually got a job with United Airlines, but I loved Texas so much, I commuted to Chicago from Dallas. I have some wonderful stories from my flight attendant days and I definitely lived the fabulous single girl life.
I stopped flying shortly after September 11th and started my new career as a full-time student. Yup, I went back to school at the ripe old age of 28 and could not have been more grateful. SMU is the best school and I loved every second of classes, staying up late studying and even waiting tables to put myself through school.
After school, I spent much of my time as a yoga instructor and when I met my husband, I was teaching about 15 classes a week. I was doing what I loved, I’d met a great guy and before long, we were talking about the future. After about a year and a half of dating, he made an honest woman out of me and we bought a house, got a dog and we set about the business of making babies!
Unfortunately, that wasn’t as easy as it sounded and we had to clear a TON of hurdles before becoming parents to our beautiful daughter, Sofia. She’s nine months old now and is the absolute light of my life. She is the reason I was born. She is the coolest kid around and while I clearly remember my life before her, I wouldn’t trade the life I have now for anything. There is nothing I’d rather be doing than being her mom.
So consider me your newest mom friend. Let’s exchange stories, tell jokes and fawn over our awesome kids. While it’s the hardest job out there, being a mom is the absolute best!
Welcome to the Big D mommy block party! Hope to meet you soon!
