How to Have a Happy Birthday This Fall

The last birthday party we attended was December 2019, at The Little Gym. Kids running, jumping, playing, and dancing together. Sitting elbow to elbow enjoying their cupcakes. Birthdays in 2020 have definitely changed, with a pandemic and all, but with a little creativity, they can still be fun.

I have two birthdays coming up for my own kiddos, September and October back-to-back, so it is time to start gathering those social distancing birthday party ideas.

My Favorite Fall Birthday Celebration Ideas

  1. Attend a Drive-in Theater with a few families: The Galaxy Drive-In in Ennis, TX has been a hit during the pandemic for its safe entertainment. They always have a kids’ movie showing. Pack up some birthday snacks, caravan with a few families, and park next to each other!
  2. Outdoor Party: Outside can still be a pretty safe way to get together. Good ways to stay safe and follow guidelines are to keep the invite list short and ask guests to only send one parent with the invited child and no other siblings should attend. Offer outdoor activities spread throughout the yard or park. Have a Social Distance Picnic Party with blankets and picnic baskets set up across the lawn for the guests. EXTRA FUN: rent a shaved ice truck or bubble bus to show up for a little extra excitement! If you want to do cake and ice cream, consider cupcakes that are individually packaged or ice cream bars/popsicles. 
  3. Not ready to get physically near people quite yet? Try a Virtual Birthday Party from the comfort of your home, like these clay parties from the Clay Art Center.

The drive-by birthday parades have definitely been a hit too, but I’m glad to see that the longer we social distance ourselves, the more creative we have become at finding ways to connect with each other and celebrate one another
