Often people think that once you have kids, you are destined to spend the rest of your Fridays at places like Chuck E Cheese or CiCi’s Pizza. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure these places are a good time when you have kids old enough to enjoy them, but sometimes we need to enjoy a public outing without an oversized mouse dancing around and pizza being flung across an arcade.
It might seem counter-intuitive to pack up the family for a night out in a “happening” part of town, but some of these places offer great atmosphere and plenty of free entertainment. Take for example, the Knox-Henderson area. There are several local restaurants and eateries that offer patio seating, which is always an added benefit with noisy and messy children. The Katy Trail intersects Knox Street with parks and playgrounds just within walking distance. After strolling the street and perusing the shops, go for a swing at the nearby park. After dinner, don’t forget to stop by Wild About Harry’s, let your kids marvel at the giant hotdog, and enjoy some frozen custard before making it home in time for bedtime.
