Half-Day, Part-Time, and Transitional Kindergartens in Dallas

Previously, I wrote a post entitled “Whatever Happened to Half-Day Kindergarten?” that expressed my frustration with the cultural shift toward full-day kindergarten. To be more precise, full-time school with homework, less play, and no rest time for five and six year olds. In response to that post, we received many requests for a list of part-time kindergartens in Dallas.

Whether you are looking for a part-time kindergarten or considering a primer or transitional year for your child, this alphabetical list is a good place to start your search.

Coram Deo Academy

With multiple DFW locations, Coram Deo’s grammar school for kids in pre-k – 4th grade offers two schedule options: Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday with electives on Friday for both.

Covenant Christian School

A classical k – 12 Christian school in North Dallas, Covenant Christian School offers a Tuesday/Thursday all-day kindergarten and a Monday/Wednesday/Friday half-day kindergarten with a full day on Wednesday.

Grace Academy Dallas

A private Christian school for ages three – 6th grade, Grace Academy is located on Inwood Road between Royal and Forest Lane, and offers both a half-day and full-day kindergarten.

Highland Park Presbyterian Day School

HPPDS offers a transitional kindergarten Monday – Friday, 8:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m., with early dismissal on Wednesdays at 11:45 a.m.

Highland Park United Methodist Church Day School

HPUMC Day School offers a half-day “bridge to kindergarten” program Monday – Friday for ages five and up.

Jubilee Junction

A ministry of Trinity Fellowship Church in Richardson, Jubilee Junction offers a Tuesday/Thursday pre-primary class for five and six year olds.

Northway Christian Day School

Part of Northway Christian Church on Northwest Highway, Northway Christian Day School offers a half-day transitional kindergarten Monday – Friday, 8:45 – 11:45 a.m. It also offers a stay-and-play option until 2:45 p.m.

Our Redeemer Lutheran School

KinderBridge at Our Redeemer is for children who would benefit from a year of preparation before entering full-day school. Parents can enroll their four and five year olds in the half-day program.

Ovilla Christian School

Ovilla Christian School is a Christian college-preparatory school in South Dallas that offers two- and five-day kindergarten options.

Providence Christian School of Texas

A pre-k – 8 classical Christian school, Providence Christian School offers two kindergarten options: Two full days on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 2:40 p.m.; or three half days on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Scofield Christian School

Scofield Christian School, a Lake Highlands private Christian school, offers half-day kindergarten Monday – Friday from 8:15 – 11:30 a.m., with a stay-and-play option until 3:30 p.m.

University Model Education Preparatory Academy

With locations in Dallas, Duncanville, and Mansfield, UME Prep is a tuition-free, k – 12 charter/homeschool hybrid that offers a two-day kindergarten. As children progress into older grades, they experience five-hour days.

The Weekday School at UPUMC

Located on Preston Road just south of Northwest Highway, The Weekday School offers a transitional kindergarten with a half-day schedule on Monday, and 2:00 p.m. dismissal the rest of the week.

Westminster Presbyterian Preschool and Kindergarten

WPPK offers another transitional year option with a half-day Monday, and 2:00 p.m. dismissal Tuesday – Friday.
