Over the last few years, I’ve noticed a steadily growing trend on my TV. It all started with Joanna Gaines and her Fixer Upper‘s. Then those Property Brothers caught my eye followed by Love It or List It. Now, home improvement shows are a full-blown obsession. When I’m at home alone, I’m quick to turn on HGTV or FYI to see what “zombie house” they’re going to salvage and make beautiful.
As the current owner of a 1960’s fixer-upper, I’ve learned these shows are a great source of inspiration, they can also be the source of a lot of stress and frustration! Reclaimed barn wood perfectly placed on an accent wall isn’t as easy as it appears. A lot of these trendy and simple home improvement projects can drastically change the look of your home, but can also look the best if left to the experts.
One perfect example of this is the exterior of your home. Whether you have a home that’s decades old and needs to be brought into the 21st century OR you’re looking to add personal touches to a newly built spec house, C.B. Anderson Woodworks can help!
C.B. Anderson Woodworks is a local, family-owned business that provides modern or rustic accents to your home providing beautiful curb appeal specializing in custom wood shutters, posts, and accents.
Growing up we always had shutters on our house. I never really thought much of the plastic fading things beside our windows, they were just there. A common decorative dressing, nothing more.
Shortly after marriage, my wife and I moved to the deep south where exterior shutters grace almost every home’s window. Almost instantly I began to notice the shutters looked different. I couldn’t figure out why at first, but soon I realized that many shutters were functional. They had to able to close in case of a hurricane. So the shutters actually fit the windows dimensions.
A light bulb came on.
After researching the history of exterior shutters, I discovered that different shutter styles existed because they served different purposes on a home. They were one of the earliest forms of a security system; they offered protection from the elements and allowed someone to better control air circulation or light in the home.
Bottom line, they were meaningful and important.
Upon moving to back Dallas, the tattered, ill hung, mis-sized, plastic, upside down shutters which decorated our own house, made me twitch. My love of woodworking drove me to make my first set of shutters: and once I started I couldn’t stop.
What resulted was a family business. With a new found passion, I began help other people create a home they were proud to drive up to each day. I enlisted the help of my wife and kids. Now the business has grown to include three more carpenters. ~Matt Cole, Owner
Working with C.B. Anderson Woodworks, I learned so much; almost like staring in my own DIY show! I learned properly-sized and styled exterior shutters are the easiest way to instantly transform a home. If you have never heard of shutter etiquette, it is actually a real thing. In many parts of the country, including North Texas, functional shutters are not typically added to a home in order to protect it from the elements or add security or privacy; however, functional or not, exterior shutters should property fit the window dimensions and style of your home, so that they appear functional.
Two years ago, together with C.B. Anderson Woodworks, we pulled off the painted plastic faux shutters and boring wood post from the front of our home, and within a few weeks had these custom Pecan-stained shutters and posts installed. It added an authentic beauty and charm to our 1960’s starter home that I instantly fell in love with.
My husband and I had such a great experience working with them, we knew they would be one of the first people we hired after moving into our “forever” home last year. Once again, they did NOT disappoint!
