Hi, my name is Lauren Unthank from The Simple Sussie. I am so excited to be with Dallas Moms today and share a really special event that we just had. I am 20 weeks along with my first pregnancy and a couple of weeks back we found out what we are having. My eagerness to spend the last weeks of summer crafting and my love for hosting came together to have a Gender Reveal Party. We wanted a time where all of our family and close friends could come together to share the exciting news and this seemed like the perfect fit.
I browsed blogs, pinterest, and google for ideas on how to reveal and fun ways to decorate the party. At the end of the day we kept it fairly simple, but loved how everything turned out.
We started by using Evite, a free online invitation website, to avoid the cost of invites. This left plenty of room for the best part…cake balls! We heard of cakes, cupcakes, and many other ideas to reveal the sex of Baby Unthank, but decided to order a cake ball for each person attending. We had cake balls at our wedding and loved the idea of it being special to us. So we headed over to our absolute favorite place to get cake balls in Dallas, Crème de la Cookie. Let me just tell you, if you have not had their cake balls (or cookies) you have to try them now! We ordered 2 dozen cakes balls and had them dyed pink or blue on the inside then covered in white icing. They were seriously wonderful!
Once it was time for the party, we had our cake balls ready and headed to our in-laws to set everything up. My husband’s parents prepared dinner so we were able to focus on being with everyone and setting up.
As everyone arrived they grabbed a pink or blue ribbon and added their vote to the voting board.
We mingled and waited for everyone to arrive and when the time came we handed out the cake balls. Everyone thought that only one would be dyed, but little did they know, they were all one color!James and I thanked them all for coming and excitedly asked them to find out what we are having! Everyone took their bite and the excitement filled the room. IT’S A GIRL!!!!!
The room was filled with people who “knew it all along” and some who had no idea, but were just excited! Bring on the dresses, bows, and all girly things!
For James and I finding out the sex of Baby Unthank was a very special moment. We chose to share that together with the doctor, so going into the party we knew that we would be welcoming a precious baby girl in January. Honestly, this added to the excitement and fun and getting to share the news with our family. We found out on Monday and planned the party for Wednesday night. Although, it was hard to keep a secret, it was well worth the wait!
So, how did you announce your gender? Did you keep it simple or was there something special you did? Have you ever been to a gender reveal party? I would love to hear any ideas for future babies to come!
Thank you so much for having me today and I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Don’t forget, go get yourself a cake ball, and enjoy!

This is such a great idea! I’ve seen cake and other ideas, but never cake balls. So cute!
We are planning to do the same thing as you later this month! Our precious baby is due in January as well! We’ll find out at the hospital and reveal to our family and friends! We’ll have the grandparents cut the cake we’re having made so they’ll see first hand, along with all of our family and friends! We are so excited for this, and will always remember this special moment!
