If you haven’t experienced the charm of the historic downtown McKinney square, clear your calendar this weekend and head north on 75. This down-home square is a little gem only a short drive north of the big city. With convenient, free parking, family friendly restaurants, and unique shops to explore, you won’t be disappointed. It’s perfect for your next outing — no matter who you are with! And I’ve got four fun weekends planned just for you.
Date Night – McKinney is an idyllic location for your next date night! A stroll around the square and window shopping make for the perfect pre-dinner activity, enjoy a steak dinner at Rick’s Chop House, pop in next door to Landon Winery for a glass of vino, and wrap up your evening with a delectable slice of dessert at Emporium Pies. Looking for something more casual? Try the Celt Irish Pub. Truly, the dinner possibilities are endless! And, on the second Saturday of each month art galleries and shops are open late from 7 pm – 10 pm.
Family Day – At nearly every holiday or new season there’s a family friendly festival on the square! Last fall included Scare on the Square and Home for the Holidays. This spring you can look forward to an adorable dog parade called Krewe of Barkus in February, an art festival in April or take in a bike race at Bike the Bricks in May. Have a kiddo crazy about cars? Check out the classic car show the last Saturday of each month from 7:30 am – 10:30 am. When you’re ready to grab lunch with the gang, try a slice of pizza at Cadillac Pizza Pub or a burger and fries at Square Burger.
Girls & Shopping – You could spend all day in the antique, clothing and décor shops in downtown McKinney. They have vintage finds, handmade items from local vendors and everything home décor. Patina Green Home and Market is the perfect lady lunch spot serving seasonal, farm fresh soups, salads, and sandwiches. Or grab a margarita with your girlfriends at Bien Salsa.
Staycation – Looking for a night away? The downtown, historic Grand Hotel has all kinds of charm and is located right on the square! Stay up late listening to live music. Then spend your morning getting pampered at the local Skylight Salon. Try breakfast across the street at Spoons Café and dinner at trendy Sugarbacon Proper Kitchen.
