Family Fun – SMU Gameday

0

IMG_2363It is obvious that Dallas is a sports town with the Mavericks, Stars, Rangers, and the Cowboys, but there is another local team that you may be missing out on even though the home games are in the heart of Dallas, affordable, and in a fantastic family-friendly environment. I am talking about the SMU Mustangs!

With the weather cooling off (hopefully), what better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than walking around a beautiful college campus and catching some football!

If you are thinking you have no ties to SMU because you, your spouse, your parents, etc. attended a different university, you are mistaken. Your tie to SMU is that you are part of the Dallas (or a surrounding) community!

The Boulevard

I recommend going early and enjoying some time on the Boulevard. It is on the beautifully tree-lined Bishop Boulevard. The activity is all along the Boulevard from Mockingbird to Dallas Hall. You can bring your own food and drinks (no glass) or visit one of the many vendors. There is photo-16plenty of entertainment from the SMU alumni band (my kids’ favorite), TVs with other games, and of course great people watching. Another favorite is the procession of the football team, SMU band, cheerleaders and Peruna making their way to the stadium!

Something new on the Boulevard this year is Mustang Alley, which is a wonderful addition for families. It is located on Binkley, just east of Bishop and west of Ownby. You can’t miss it! There are bounce houses, face painting, a photo booth, and multiple other vendors. The Good Sport Tent and Patio has multiple TVs, beverages and food from the Nodding Donkey. The best part about Mustang Alley is that it is free and open to the public!

The Game

The environment inside the stadium is terrific for even the smallest fans! The stadium is top notch with nice, clean facilities and a great size making it easy to get around. Entertainment between quarters and during time outs includes fun field games, SMU cheer and dance, and the adorable mini mustang cheerleaders.

If you decide to go to a game, be sure to check out individual game day details before you go, including ticket office hours, parking details, stadium map, etc. If you love it as much as I do, you may consider season tickets or mini packages next season! If your littles become fans now, they may just choose SMU and will be closer to home!
