My husband and I recently decided to venture out of our normal date night routine and try something different. We headed across 75 to the east side of Dallas and found ourselves at TopGolf. I feel like I’ve been living under a rock since my son was born, so I’m probably the last person in the city to have “discovered” this venue, but just case you’ve been hiding under a rock next to mine, I thought I’d share my experience with you!
TopGolf is located on Park Lane between Greenville and Abrams next to the Park Lane Equestrian Center. The facility itself is a “diamond in the rough;” in the middle of a large number of apartments, you’ll find a golf range, mini-golf courses, and batting cages. Walking in, you can easily see that the complex is well maintained, and you’re made to feel like you’re getting your money’s worth; which is good because it’s slightly pricey!
Since we hadn’t been there before, we each had to purchase TopGolf Playing Cards. The Playing Card is $40 and includes free club rentals, 140 golf balls, and unlimited use of the putting green. Each game uses 20 balls, so the Playing Card is essentially good for 7 games. If you have access to clubs, you can choose to purchase just the golf balls for $6.50 per game per person (during peak hours).
Unlike other golf ranges, TopGolf combines the game with technology. Each golf ball contains a RFID chip that detects your accuracy and distance. With this ability, they’ve turned golf into a whole different type of competition. Using a computer screen next to your shooting green, you can select one of 5 games you want to play. We selected the most popular appropriately named “Top Golf.” Our goal was to hit our balls into the targets on the range to earn points. The further the target, the more points we received. After 20 balls, the person with the most points was the winner! It’s no surprise my husband won both games.
Each shooting green is isolated with its own table and chairs; almost like having a patio to yourself. While we were there we ordered a few drinks and some food. The menu includes a variety of appetizers, burgers, pizza, salads, and desserts. Most of the items on the menu ranged from $9.99-$17.99. We ended up sharing a 14” Carnivore Pizza, and it was delicious! I’d almost say the food was more memorable than the game!
By the end of the night, we’d only played 2 games, so we were able to walk away with 5 games left on our Playing Cards to use for another night. I have to admit I’ve actually never golfed before, and you probably won’t find me at the nearest country club anytime soon, but I’m definitely glad we went! The whole experience reminded me a little like going bowling. It’s fun when go as a couple, but you’d probably have an even better time with a group of friends!
