Do you, like me, sometimes feel like you are constantly in search for the best parks in Dallas? With a 1 year old in tow, I’m always on the lookout for playgrounds that are toddler friendly and offer more activities than just tunnel crawling and sliding.
One afternoon, we ventured over to the Scottish Rite Hospital Park and Playground and were delightfully surprised. The main playground is great. The only complaint I had was how hot the equipment got in the sun, which is not a big issue if you have a seasoned walker who won’t be putting their hands on every single surface. Other than the hot surfaces, it is great. Lots of benches, a covered pavilion, and nice bathrooms right off the playground.
What sold me on this park was the toddler area. They have an entirely separate play area for toddlers up to age 3. It is so nice to have a safe place for little ones to roam without being trampled by the big kids. There are all kinds of low levels for them to crawl or walk on, a playhouse of mirrors, and small slides, tunnels, and little games. It stays pretty shady by trees, but I would still recommend sunscreen for sensitive skin, since it is not fully covered.
Next time you’re going stir-crazy and looking for some free, outdoor fun, head over to Scottish Rite Hospital and enjoy this great community park. You can’t miss it, it’s right out front and parking is free (score!). Here is a map to the hospital.
I love this park too! I did a brief post about it once on our family blog (which really only my family reads :-). I love how it really keeps a toddler contained!
Just a heads up, this playground is currently under construction and will not reopen until later this summer.
Where can I find “Blueprints” to old playground? Because, I’m thinking about having it built on my ranch. Thanks..
