Creative & Easy Back to School Snacks

0

Can you believe summer is almost over?

Target has already brought in their Back to School section, kids’ clothing ads are all over television, and parents are making the most of the few weeks they have left before school starts again.

As the weeks turn into days, you’re going to have a lot to plan, organize, and prepare for, but if you’re like me, one of your least favorite “back to school” tasks is preparing food for your little ones!

Last Spring, guest blogger Meagan did a great job helping us start and organize our  Bento Box Creations, but my toddler demands more! He’s always snacking!

So to help take a little off your plate and help put more onto your child’s plate, take note of these creative, easy, and tasty snacks children will love; so easy you won’t even need to write it down!

Ants on a Log: An Oldie But Goodie

3 simple ingredients, and no direction needed. Celery, peanut butter, and raisins.

If you want, you can get a little fancy and substitute peanut butter for almond butter and raisins for another dried fruit of your choice. But for a child the idea is simple: They want to eat ants!

Banana S’more Bites

This is a creation I discovered purely through a series of cravings that blended together. Cut a banana into 1″ bites. Add a little dolip of chocolate hazelnut spread, and dip into graham cracker crumbs. Not quiet as delicious as if you had a marshmallow and chocolate bar, but I promise, your pediatric dentist will thank you!

Bolthouse Farms Shake Downs

Definitely no pen and paper needed on this one. Just a trip to your nearest Walmart and a child who enjoys getting a little crazy with their food!

If you haven’t seen these new-to-Texas snacks, Shake Downs are nothing more than fresh baby carrots with a tasty, crave-able flavor (Ranch or Chili Lime) shaken down into an individually portioned bag. Similar to opening a bag of popcorn, you simply Pinch the bag and Pull to open the seasoning packet. Once the seasoning drops down, you shake! Tear open the bag and enjoy!

For back to school, it’s the simplest snack of all because all you have to do is remove them from the refrigerator and place into your child’s lunchbox. Then, kids can have all the fun at school showing their friends how easy it is to add a delicious flavor to their carrots!

Krystal Hurst
Krystal is a Dallas-native who began her career as a fourth grade teacher in Richardson RISD, but quickly changed paths to became a stay-at-home mom in 2011. Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
