Covenant Play Area: An Indoor Must!

UPDATE 5/30/2013: This indoor play space is no longer open to the public — at all! Please see our post on other great indoor fun for some alternatives.

UPDATE 5/6/2013 2:48pm: We’ve just been informed that due to their new MDO program starting this Fall, this indoor area will only be available to the Public on Saturday’s as of June 1st. Bummer!! So make sure to  make the most out of while you can!

Who knew that over the last few weeks I’d need to find an indoor location because it was too cold outside instead of too hot?

But since my littlest was born three months ago, and my oldest decided the world is his playground, I’ve been on a desperate search for a play place that’s indoor to protect my baby, age appropriate for my toddler, and enclosed so if I have to turn my back for a minute (or nurse without worrying about having to chase after him with my cover flapping in the wind)…and last week, I found it!

I almost HATE giving away this secret, but here it is.

The Covenant Church in Carrollton (located on Trinity Mills between Kelly & Marsh) has an amazing indoor play space that’s designed for children ages 1-10.

Monday-Saturday between 8:30am-6pm, you’ll find the doors open to the public at Covenant Church’s play area. When you walk in, make sure to sign in with the greeter. They’ll direct you through the cafe to a set of double doors that opens up to an enormous room designed just for kids.

There’s two areas immediately up front that are designed for toddlers in mind. To your left, similar to mall play places, there’s a little enclosed area with a foamed train and railroad track, a tunnel and slide with a fun mural in the background.

To your right is an area for imaginative play with a pretend pizzeria and tool shop, tables to sit at for puzzles, and activities to play on the wall.

What I love about this area is that there’s also plenty of seating for mom! It’s a great place to stop and get organized while you take off shoes or prep a bottle as your little ones start to take off.

Then of course, the best part is the 4 level play structure designed by the popular Worlds of Wow. Although it was created for ages 3-10, my 2 1/2 year old didn’t have any trouble climbing up and sliding down the various levels.

There’s a smaller slide for those who don’t want to brave the heights, and it comes out right at the entrance to go back up, but then there are two larger spiral slides for those kids who don’t mind venturing up a little higher.

Inside the structure, you’ll find several obstacle courses to make your way through, a black light area, shapes to play with and an observation bubble with steering wheel.

Towards the back of the play place are several activities for the older kids too! There’s 3 Playstation/Wii consules, a rock wall with bungee cords to make it easier to climb, and an interactive floor and light game. You know..those floors you might see at the mall; when you step on it the image changes like a bouncing ball or fish swimming by.

And although it looked like it was closed for repairs, there’s also a small basketball court with gate to prevent little ones from just walking onto the court.

We spent over an hour having fun and playing at Covenant Church. And since it’s FREE, you bet we’ll be back!

Oh, and Moms, I almost forgot the best part!

Remember that cafe I said you’d walk through on your way into the play area? It’s a coffee shop! Open the same hours as the play place, and even later on Wednesdays! So, grab a cup of tea or latte while you plop your kids down for a snack and unwind after an afternoon of fun!

So, hopefully once this cold weather moves through and the real Texas summer arrives, you’ll now be able to add one additional resource to your list of indoor play areas to beat the heat!

Do you know of any other church’s with awesome play spaces?

  1. Oh No! Everyone is going to know now. We have been going there since it first opened. It is the best play area we have found in all North Dallas. Good reporting. Love what you share.

  2. We were there last week and found out they will be closing to the public on June 1 (except on Saturdays). The church is opening a MDO program in the fall and has to get it ready over the summer. Bummed.

  3. The first picture looks just like the tubes at Irving Bible Church. They are open to the public, not sure exact hours, but I think it’s all days, I’ve been there on a Monday morning. They also have a soft play for babies, but my 10 mo old gets a little bored with that and crawls over to the tube area. They also have a coffee shop there. Great place!

  4. We went today and was informed that they are completely closing to the public as of June 1st, even on Saturdays. Bummer 🙁

  5. We went in mid May and had a blast. Tried to go back the end of May and they would not let us in. It took us 10 minutes to get our little boy fastened back into his car seat. Then he cried for another 30. So said to hear it will not be open to the public at all. It was not overrun with kids when we went on a Saturday. Very sad. Such a great place for hot or cold days. We have a church already so wont be changing to one 25 miles away for a playground:(
