Mother’s Day is around the corner, and now that I’m a mother it takes on a whole new meaning for me. I’m no longer making picture magnets or matchstick hearts for my mom, instead I celebrate this sweet, precious baby my husband and I brought into the world and look forward to the day when my Little One will run through the door with his Mother’s Day fingerpainting.
But until then, I’m not going to miss out on a Mother’s Day just because my son can’t use a crayon yet. As moms, we slave tirelessly for children; cooking, cleaning, kissing ou’ies, creating kid-friendly activities worthy of Pinterest. And don’t get me started on the lack of sleep!
So, as Mother’s Day approaches, mothers around the nation will wonder what amazing child-made gifts lay in store, but I’m wondering if I could just have one Mother’s Day wish. I’d love nothing more than…read a book! I am forced to get my pleasure reading in after 10pm, and I’d love to sit outside in the shade and escape into a book for a few hours. Maybe it’s a tad bit selfish, but as mothers, I think we’ve proven 99.9% of the time, we’re selfless!
But I’m not alone! Here are a few wishful thoughts from your DMB contributors on what they’d like for Mother’s Day.
After all, girls can dream!
“What does your perfect Mother’s Day gift look like?”
Lauren: I’m always a sucker for a great mani/pedi since I rarely go get one for myself. I would also love a little day trip (or weekend trip?!) with my husband and boys. Just doing fun stuff, eating good food, and being with my boys.
Jennifer: I would love to have a housekeeper do a DEEP clean on my house…oh, and I’ve love jewelry too!
Heather: What I want is a shopping spree…I’m not pregnant or planning on being pregnant ever again (sigh)…but since I’ve spent most of the last 5 years in that state– my wardrobe has suffered!
Jamie: I just want my husband to take over all of my daily motherly and homemaker jobs and let me relax all. day. long.
Sherry: I would be happy with anything, but I really love a Keuirg coffee maker. I am the only one in my house that drinks coffee, and I would love to have the ability to just make one cup. Right now, it takes me a few minutes to get the coffee going in the morning, so it would be nice to press a button and it be ready! With the kids needing diaper changes, breakfast, etc, that would be one less thing I would have to worry about!
Jenny: I would love to SLEEP IN. My son can now get out of bed and come into our room in the morning, which he always does by no later than 6:45am. I would love to sleep in and not be woken by him or both kids fighting or the baby screaming. I would also like to point out that this is a completely irrational wish that will never, ever happen.
Amanda: The one special gift I’d love for mother’s day — breakfast in bed, handpicked flower(s) and to not have to change a single diaper all day!! And maybe a pedicure… but that’s really a gift that everyone who has to see my feet can appreciate!
Lisa: I think I’d love the day off. You know… somehow being all by myself all day long, with no domestic agenda in sight!
Desiree: So, what I’d like for Mother’s Day is a full day of deluxe pampering – I’m talking mani/pedi, massage, and lots and lots of champagne!!
Kelly: We are going to the mountains of New Mexico this year and it happens to be on Mother’s Day weekend. Hiking in the woods with all three girls, playing in streams, and playing disc golf on a mountainside just about sums up my perfect Mother’s Day. With hubby wearing the baby on HIS back, of course!
