My kids, like all kids, have a lot of energy. And while I enjoy taking them to the many wonderful parks Dallas has, going on bike rides, or even playing in the front yard…sometimes it’s not enough for me or for them.
Sometimes I need a place to take the kids with four inescapable walls and lots of other mothers. A place with lots of padding, bouncing, and room to roam. A place where my crawler or barely walking toddler can practice to her heart’s content and my 4 year old can run and jump.
My friends, I’m talking about The Palaestra. What is The Palaestra? It’s a gym located just past the intersection of Belt Line and Inwood in Addison. It’s the gym where my two oldest children take their gymnastics classes, and it also happens to be their absolute favorite place to play.
Every Friday morning beginning August 31st from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. and Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. you can bring your children to the gym and let them play. They can play on the trampolines; they can play in the huge foam pit; they can play on the long trampoline; they can play on the inflatables; they can play on the bouncy floor; or they can even use the foam blocks from the pit to build forts on the bouncy floor!
**And if you bring your older children to the evening session you have the option of letting them play while you spend two hours on a Friday doing whatever your heart desires. [With all the fantastic restaurants in Addison I don’t ever find this difficult!]
Ms. Becky and her fellow coaches offer a safe and fun place for all ages of children. They interact with the kids, and 10 minutes before open gym is over offer a fantastic session of bubble blowing. When the music stops everyone gets in line for their choice of stamps before heading home with mom or dad for a much-needed NAP.

Am I the only one wondering what in the world Palaestra means? Is this Latin or something for Gymnasium?
It’s a super fun place! We used to go when Slappy’s Playhouse was in the back and you could also go see wonderful kids puppet shows there. We miss Slappy’s, but the place is still lots of fun!!!
