Summer in Texas is hot, really hot. That’s why many Texans take to beating the heat with fun summer pastimes such as swimming. With the joys of swimming however, also come certain dangers. It is essential that our children learn the proper techniques and water safety rules so that swimming can be an enjoyable and safe experience.
Aqua-Tots mission is “To prevent drownings by working with the community to provide a standard of excellence in teaching children and adults water safety”. This exemplary school has years of experience, skilled instructors, and a successful curriculum that is proven to teach both skill and safety.
Convenience is another thing that sets Aqua-Tots apart from other swim experiences. Aqua-Tots has multiple locations throughout DFW (Plano, Frisco, Murphy, Richardson, and Rockwall) and a wide variety of class times in the morning, afternoon and evenings. Working moms and stay-at-home Moms alike will be able to choose a class that best fits their family’s needs.
Classes are not only based on your child’s age, but on their skill level as well. Beginner classes are offered up to the age of 12 and available in several class sizes from group lessons (4:1 ratio), to semi-private lessons (2:1 ratios), and private lessons (1:1 ratio). Also, for advanced swimmers, club and team lessons.
Aqua-Tots innovative facilities are excellent. The indoor pools are heated year-round to ensure a comfortable temperature for students. For parents there is a seated viewing area, so they can keep close watch on their child’s lesson. The changing rooms are fully stocked with hair dryers, swim suit dryers, lotions and de-tangler for parent’s convenience, making the whole experience supreme.
Prior to her lesson at Aqua-Tots, my Daughter had a bad swimming experience and was very apprehensive in the water. Our lesson at Aqua-Tots however, was incredible from beginning to end. My daughter is almost 4 and was put in the Level 3 Leapfrogs class. This level is a foundational class that teaches comfort in the water and basic swim skills.
The instructor starts each class with safety rules, which as a parent is the highest priority in choosing my child’s swim program. Throughout the lesson, the instructor taught my daughter the correct arms and legs and even practiced specific forms which I was told was in preparation for the different strokes that are taught later on. I loved that the curriculum encourages proper breathing techniques. The instructor helped my child practice blowing bubbles under the water while being sensitive to her insecurities. The children also practiced survival techniques such as the back float, previously something my daughter was unsure about, but the instructor was calm and helped my daughter feel safe. Throughout the class while safety and skill were the main focuses, the teacher made it fun and even ended the class with a game.
All in all, the class exceeded my expectations and my child learned more than I thought possible for a first lesson. After one class my daughter seemed more confident in the water and couldn’t wait to practice the techniques she learned in class the next time we were at the pool. If you are looking for a swimming program for your child with the perfect balance of safety and fun along with flexible schedules, Aqua-Tots is the place to be.
