Guys. Have you ever taken your kids to see a play?? There’s nothing like it, AND it’s a nice change of pace from our usual weekend entertainment options. The Eisemann Center in Richardson has a really good show on deck Sunday, October 13 at 2:30pm to kick off their Family Theatre Series. It would be a lovely fall family date!
Based on the book by Lois Brandt, Maddi’s Fridge is a gentle yet sometimes hilarious exploration of friendship, empathy, and doing the right thing. One day Sofia discovers that her best friend Maddi has no food in her fridge at home. Sofia wants to help her friend, but Maddi makes her promise not to tell anyone. What should Sofia do?
I looked up Maddi’s Fridge on Goodreads (it gets great reviews), and here’s a little more about the story:
Best friends Sofia and Maddi live in the same neighborhood, go to the same school, and play in the same park, but while Sofia’s fridge at home is full of nutritious food, the fridge at Maddi’s house is empty. [The story] addresses issues of poverty with honesty and sensitivity while instilling important lessons in friendship, empathy, trust, and helping others.
So basically, I’ll cry, my kids will learn valuable life lessons, and we’ll be supporting local theater. Sign me up.
Ticket prices are pretty sweet for this event, starting at just $12. Any grocery bag filled with non-perishables, turned in to the Eisemann Center ticket office or Network of Community Ministries will receive a Buy One, Get One Free promo code to the performance. And any bags of food donated on the day of the show will receive a 20% off discount code for the next Eisemann Center Presents Family Theatre Series performance of Pete the Cat on Sunday, November 24.

BONUS: Eisemann Extras is an interactive program (from dance parties to petting zoos) held prior to each Family Theatre Series performance. First up, Child at Heart will host a Teddy Bear Picnic before the performance of Maddi’s Fridge on October 13. Kids will get to stuff an animal with love and fluff to take home or donate to another child in need through the SWAGG program, a faith-based & family-oriented ministry that provides support to foster, adopted, and homeless children. The cost is $10 per Eisemann Extras event per child, or $30 for all 4 events in the series, per child.
