Imagine a room filled with candy as far as the eye can see. Imagine a place where your child can go up to a counter brimming with colorful sweets and with a simple request, any delight is theirs for the taking.
That dream is a reality at one of my absolute favorite Dallas Christmas events: the Cookies and Castles Gingerbread Extravaganza. Annually, the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta hosts a gingerbread castle-making wonderland.
Mark your calendars for this year’s Family Day on Saturday, December 12th from 1-3pm. Hosted at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the event proceeds benefit the hospital’s prosthesis department.
Who has ever tried to make a gingerbread castle at home? Assembly of the house doesn’t always go quite as planned and it’s a feat to gather all of the varied decorations for your masterpiece. And I haven’t even gotten to the disarray of your kitchen after the construction…
Admission to Cookies and Castles removes that stress and mess. Upon arrival, your kids have all of the fixings needed to decorate a gingerbread man or (already constructed) house at their fingertips.
Simply put: this local event is magical.
I’ve volunteered at the candy station for many years and trust me when I say, this is the one time in a child’s life where they really get as much candy as they want. I have never seen Cookies and Castles run out of sweet treats and the children come back to the candy table again and again and again…
