My daughter was eighteen months old when she first decided that she was terrified of dentists.
Our pediatrician had referred us for an early cleaning because she had a significant tartar buildup, and I dutifully made the appointment with the hope that it wouldn’t be as traumatic as I was envisioning. It was worse, actually. We waited nearly an hour to be seen, and by the time we made it back to the chair, mama and little were both impatient, frustrated, and ready to get the heck out of there. The cleaning was awful, and we were both crying by the end of it. We had to take her back six months later, and she knew exactly what was waiting for her. She was screaming before we even made it back to the exam room.
So I waited longer than I should have to take her back to the dentist because I honestly just didn’t want to deal with it. When I walked through the doors at Aurentz Family Dental, however, I knew that we were going to have a very different kind of experience.
Located conveniently in Rockwall, the entire office at Aurentz Family Dental is beautiful and has been designed with families in mind. There’s an iPad station for kids to play on while they wait. My daughter hopped right on up and picked out an app while I checked her in and filled out paperwork.
There’s a coffee and beverage bar stocked with goodies for parents and kids, alike.
And a cozy seating area with a large TV. But I honestly never even got the chance to sit down in the comfy chairs because we were taken back to the exam room almost immediately.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating. My daughter was shy at first, so they had her owl sit in the chair while she got acclimated. She eventually was brave enough to try the chair out. (The TV hung in perfect viewing distance probably didn’t hurt.)
And then she got to meet Dr. Aurentz.
There are honestly a million things to love about this family-owned practice, but the thing that made the difference for us was the patient, gentle way that Dr. Aurentz engaged with my daughter. She’s been practicing for ten years, and it’s clear that she has found her passion working with families. She made my daughter feel comfortable from the start; easing into the examination at my daughter’s pace. The examination and cleaning went quickly with minimal tears and trauma.
When it was over, there were lots of high fives and praise, and then it was time to pick out a toy. Dr. Aurentz keeps an entire wall stocked with silly string, cars, markers, Play-Doh, bubbles, and a three year-old girl’s dream: Barbies!
By the time we left, my daughter had made fast friends with everyone in the office, and most especially Dr. Aurentz. Weeks later, she’s still talking about her “buddy, Dr. Keisha,” and I know I’ll have no trouble convincing her to go back in six months. (She’s got her eye on another Barbie.) And by that time, I’ll be ready for a cleaning, myself, and can schedule appointments for us to go together. Two birds, one cushy dentist office.
If you’re looking for a place where the entire family can go to receive thoughtful, quality dental care in a calm and relaxing environment, go see Dr. Aurentz at Aurentz Family Dental. Dr. Aurentz can treat all family members from their very first exam (6 months after the first tooth comes in) all the way to adulthood. If you need specialty care, such as root canals or oral surgery, they can schedule most of those procedures in their office with the specialist coming directly to you. Their mission is to make a sometimes dreaded experience—a trip to the dentist—a seamless and easy process for your entire family.
