While it might not feel like fall yet in DFW, there are certainly signs that it’s on its way. There are pumpkins and apples in the store, Halloween costumes in the aisles of Target, and most importantly, football is back on our tv’s!
If you are in throes of toddlerhood and have small children like I do, you probably do most of your football viewing from the comfort of your own home. It just works better for us. Home is where the toys and cribs are. We may not be hitting up the sports bar this football season, but that doesn’t mean we have to forego all the delicious foods that go along with watching football. Here are 9 of my favorite foods for watching football at home. Whether you’re watching with friends or your immediate family, I hope you can find something new and delicious to try this fall!
Snacks for Watching Football at Home
Dips
Nothing says it’s a football party like a good chip and dip. You can’t go wrong with a classic queso or guacamole and tortilla chips, but sometimes it’s worth it to put a little more time and effort into your dip.
Pumpkin Fondue – My aunt made this for us one year around Thanksgiving, and my husband and I have never forgotten it.
Loaded Baked Potato Dip – The first time I made this I went ahead and made the homemade chips too. While it certainly works with store-bought chips, the homemade ones were even tastier.
Buffalo Chicken Dip – I don’t usually make wings at home, so this is a perfect substitute in dip form!
Small Bites
Finger food is the name of the game if you’re eating in front of the tv. Plates may be scarce and laps plentiful, so stick with small bite appetizers to try to minimize mess.
Jalapeno Poppers – I made these for a Super Bowl Party about 10 years ago and they have been in regular rotation at our house ever since. They might not be what you normally think of with jalapeno poppers but trust me they are amazing.
Caramelized Onion Tarts with Apples – Sweet, caramelly onions + apples + puff pastry, it doesn’t get much better than that. For more apple recipes, check out this post.
Corn Dog Muffins – These simple corn dog muffins are sure to be a crowd-pleaser, especially with the younger crowd.
Desserts
It’s not a party (or a good game watch) if you don’t have dessert! Here are a couple of my fall favorites.
Cut-out Cookies – These are my favorite cut out cookies to make any time of year. I use all butter (instead of shortening) in mine. You can get a cookie cutter in the shape of a football or your favorite team’s mascot to make them even more fun!

Beer & Bacon Pecan Bars – Beer, Bacon, and Pecans?!? This recipe just screams fall and football to me!
