Looking for a great excuse to declutter? July 15 is National Give Something Away Day.
Here are seven things to give away as well as some great Dallas-area charities to give your stuff to.
Blankets & Towels
Give your well-worn towels and blankets a new life by donating them to your local animal shelter. They can be used to help with cleanup and to provide a soft surface for homeless pets.
Clothing & Shoes
Clothing, shoes, and accessories for women, men, and children that are in sellable condition (meaning no holes, tears, or stains) can be donated to charity-run thrift shops.
Genesis Benefit Thrift Store benefiting the Genesis Women’s Shelter
Out of the Closet benefiting the AIDS Healthcare Foundation
St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores in Dallas and Plano
Bicycles
Bicycles that your children have outgrown or are no longer used by your family can be donated to organizations that will refurbish (repair) them and give them to children and adults who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
Furniture, Housewares, & Decor
Gently or lightly used basic household furniture items and home furnishing accessories can be donated to organizations that provide furniture to individuals and families transitioning from shelters or emergency relocations.
Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity
Books & Media
Are your bookcases and closets full of books you’ll never read again? Gently used books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, and records can be donated to local libraries, schools, and charities.
Baby Items
Donating gently used or like-new baby, toddler, and maternity items are a great way to support moms in need.
Excess Art & School Supplies
At the end of the school year, my four kids empty their desks, lockers, and backpacks of all their unused school supplies. If you are like me and find yourself with a mountain of random but useable art and school supplies at the end of the school year, consider donating them art programs, schools, and after-school programs.
