Tis the season! No, not for twinkle lights and Santa photos, but to make some serious decisions on your child’s future education. No pressure, right?!
If you’re interested in private school for the 2020-2021 school year, chances are you’ve been Googling and researching the topic for months and hopefully, you’ve popped into at least one or two campus preview events. Not only have you made it past the first big question (Do we go private or public?), but you then dive into a hundred other questions and factors to consider: Which DFW school is “the best”? Which school fits my child’s needs? How far am I willing to drive? Is it too late to enroll an older student? When do you start the application process? What documents will we need? …and so on and so on.
By December, all the information you’ve agonized and fretted over has consumed your brain. But now’s the time to just lay out the facts and keep it simple. Is there a school that eases all your academic concerns, focuses on your child’s whole self, and makes the decision to apply an easy one? Look no further than Lakehill Prep!
Here are 5 Very Simple Reasons You’ll Want to Explore Lakehill Prep:
1. Discover Programs that Embrace each Child’s Individuality.
At Lakehill Preparatory School, you’ll find a school that celebrates (and challenges) all types of students — from the quiet, studious, shy, and self-motivated student to the extroverted, adventurous, athlete. Lakehill looks for the potential in each child and through talented teachers and staff provides an environment with a wide-range of academic, artistic, athletic, and extracurricular activities.
2. Develop Important Academic Skills from Early Childhood through 12th Grade.
From the earliest years in Lower School, Lakehill Prep uses creative methods to build future higher-level academic skills through exercises like creative writing and public speaking. In Middle School, in addition to the curriculum, teachers place an emphasis on enforcing proper study habits and organizational skills that students will need for high school and beyond.
3. Immerse Your Family in a Positive, Supportive Community.
Lakehill Prep doesn’t leave the student at the door but becomes a part of the student and family’s community. From the moment they walk into the door each morning and shake the Headmaster’s hand, Lakehill Prep works to instill a sense of responsibility and confidence in all areas of a student’s life.
Students will foster a sense of community through their tribes – a group of students of various grade levels that meet several times a year. These students remain together throughout their entire educational experience at Lakehill. They make spirit posters, work on community service projects and attend special events together — all just another way of bringing the Lakehill family together!
4. Be A Part of an Advanced Campus without Overwhelming Numbers.
Lakehill Prep’s main campus is recently renovated and received a 16,000 square foot expansion that added labs, classrooms, meeting rooms, and a courtyard which provides an outdoor classroom setting and performance space.
The courtyard is not the only place where students can learn outdoors. The Roger L. Perry campus of Lakehill Prep includes the Warrior Athletic Complex and the Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center, where K-8th grades go monthly to explore nature and enjoy hands-on activities. It’s the only environmental center of its kind at a Dallas private school.
Even with all of these amazing additions and advances, Lakehill Prep has still managed to keep the student-to-teacher ratio at 9:1, with about 14 students in a class. This gives teachers and students an opportunity to engage in a variety of activities and project-based learning in the classroom. All grades (K-12th), are together on the main campus.
5. Where Focus is Placed on the Whole Student; Not Just Academic Success.
While Lakehill is a college preparatory program, they recognize achievement and success isn’t made through academics alone. Lakehill is committed to providing students from kindergarten through high school with a unique and high-quality education and to helping young people develop – not only as students but also as well-rounded individuals through athletics, the arts, after-school programs and organizations, and their community.
The BEST way to get a sense of the family-oriented, close-knit community at Lakehill Prep is to come to one of their upcoming admission coffee events (parents only for these!). You’ll get to see classes in action, interact with students, talk to administrators, and tour the campus with student ambassadors.
