This summer, make plans to get out and about in Oak Cliff. There is so much more to Oak Cliff than the Dallas Zoo. My husband was born and raised in Oak Cliff, and our daughters attend school in the neighborhood, so we spend a lot of time visiting friends and family as well as playing in the area.
This little neighborhood is booming with family-friendly things to do and places to go. Whether you want to eat a good meal that everyone can enjoy or have some fun in the sun, Oak Cliff has something for you!
My family and I got up early on a Saturday morning to explore. Here are three spots we visited and had a blast:
How to Spend a Day in Oak Cliff with Kids
The morning started at Kidd Springs Park, before the heat of the day. This park has all the swings, slides, and wall climbing a kid could dream of! There are areas for little kids and big kids and adult seating. You’ll never meet a stranger at Kidd Springs. All the parents are so friendly, and it can easily become a place where everybody knows your name. There are also plenty of grills for a good ‘ol Texas BBQ, birthday party, or both.
The day was heating up, so I thought we needed something to cool us down. Next stop, Wow Wow Lemonade Stand. It’s only been open for a few months, but the lemonade is truly worth the hype. The drinks are so good, and the mason jars they’re served in are even cuter! The menu also includes acai bowls, salads, smoothies, and more. True to the company’s Hawaiian culture, everything served is fresh and organic and some items are biodegradable.
We grabbed our drinks and made it to our final stop, Whose Books. I thought it would be cool to grab a new book to read before nap time, which our girls definitely needed at this point. Whose Books has only been open for six months—let’s show our support! The owner, Claudia, and her daughter are so friendly, and the book selection makes it very hard to leave. I learned that they have community story time every second and third Saturday, and monthly book clubs for adults and teens! I appreciate that the selection of books is so diverse. And the quaint, little shop is comfy and very inviting. They even have cute coffee table books that I’m adding to my wish list. We will definitely be back to visit!
Oak Cliff is truly a gem of Dallas, and it’s growing more and more every day. If you decide to visit Kidd Springs, you may see me there.
